Stayes for a week here at Brackenhurst last month and in general the experience was positive. We had a cottage of our own, and it was clean if somewhat cold at night. Everything was a bit worn out and mended several times, but everything seemed to work.

The hotel restaurant was ok, but You never knew beforehamd if the buffet was open or if You needed to order from the cafe that was working a bit on the limit of the service. Both ways food was OK, though.

Room Tip: The WLAN service was only available on the restaurant / cafeteria building, but if Your room is righ...

Our international organization needed a conference center and hotel to host some 50 people (mostly from Africa) in a special technology training. Through one of our co-workers in Kenya, we found the Brackenhurst and it suited our needs perfectly!

Rooms: The rooms were probably the least exciting part of the facilities. While they were cleaned very well and offered everything you might expect from a hotel room (no TV), the room was plainly decorated and was a little small. While we didn't need one since it was cool here in October, you should know that there are no AC units in the rooms which could be problematic in the summertime.

Conference Facilities: Our group used the Saunders conference hall. This included 5-6 smaller meeting rooms (ability to hold 6-25 people depending on the room) and a large circular shaped conference hall which we easily fit 50 people in with tables. The rooms all have projection screens and the staff was very accommodating in terms of sound and video equipment. If you need strong wifi for your conference, though, this might not be the place for you. The wifi was very inconsistent and weak.

Food: The food here was very enjoyable. Our group was offered a buffet style meal three times a day. I have been to a handful of conference centers all over Africa, and this center offered the best food by far. Americans, Canadians, the French, and Africans were all happy alike. The dining room had a nice decor and soft lighting. The dining building also offered a cafe that was open for extensive hours offering espresso, cold drinks, pastries, and ice cream.

Facilities: The grounds of the conference center are beautiful and very well taken care of! There are beautiful grass lawns, flowers, and trees everywhere. There are also a number of great hiking/running trails around the center. SPECIAL NOTE: take a hike on the trail that goes up the hill where the cellular towers are (ask a worker how to get to the trail gate) it offers a beautiful view of Nairobi and the nearby farms at sunset. Be sure to get down before 6:30, though, as the gate back into the conference center is locked at night

The conference center also had a great gift shop that included more traditional African/Masai trinkets and some nicer hand-made items. You can get all of your souvenirs here!

Overall: While not luxurious, the Brackenhurst offers a great conference setting with a very friendly and helpful staff. It also offers some amenities that you won't find at other locations like a quality gift shop and nature walking trails. I would recommend it!

I was a guest for a conference and this place was great!
The reception staff were very friendly as was the whole staff.
The whole grounds were very well taken care of and the rooms were very nice good for the type of conference center.
The meals in the dinning room were good and the coffee shop was great!
If you have a chance to visit this place in the hills of Limuru area..... do go!

My wife and I just spent a week at Brackenhurst, a retreat and conference center nestled among beautiful tea fields. This is, according to our best estimate, the 10th time we have stayed at this beautiful, restful place. It is situated at about 7000 ft. altitude in Kenya's Highlands. Because of that, the evenings and nights get rather cool, but at least during their "summer" (December through March) the days warm up beautifully. During their colder season, starting in June, The nights can get quite uncomfortably cold. It would be nice to have a source of heat come with the room rental. But the beauty of the grounds makes up for some chilly nights. You will enjoy the good food, as well as the gift shop where prices are lower than almost anywhere else in Kenya.

I stayed for 8 nights at Brackenhurst. The whole site is a joy to be in. During the April rains, so I went to sleep most nights with the sound of rain on the iron roof. Good security, consistently clean rooms. The food was fresh and healthy. Good coffee at the cafe, and very reasonably priced gift shop (compared to trinkets at say... the Rift Valley lookout). On the weekends lots of locals come to enjoy the altitude and cool air. Lovely walks through tea growing areas. Helpful staff. Absolutely gorgeous gardens full of beautiful birds and insects. The ACTS group operate out of the site enable you to go on safari, see the rift valley etc at a reasonable price and with a thoughtful, honest and helpful guide. Wifi in the cafe. No phones, AC or TV in rooms, very peaceful!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a name, not a number. They are the special ones!

Stayed three nights as part of a work retreat. Very friendly atmosphere with gardens, running paths, botanic garden, and small houses surrounded by tea estates. Is also some sort of seminary so no alcohol ... no bad thing maybe. Kind of youth hostel atmosphere with lots of enthusiastic young people and visiting groups.

I stayed in a very small room with basic, but perfectly good facilities. Internet access in the lounge ' shop area (with roaring wod fire); shared TV lounge. Resident company running safaris into the country.

My taxi driver had a little problem getting there... so be very clear where you are going (via 'Banana' apparently!)

All in all a positive experience; the meeting space worked well for our small group (we used the grounds for group discussions).

My family and I stayed at Brackenhurst in December of 2011 for several days. As a child I had stayed here often during the days when the place was operated by the Baptist Mission of Kenya, and had fond memories. We all truely enjoyed out time there coming back after nearly twenty years. The grounds were beautiful, and everyone there was friendly and very, very helpful. The food was delicious and we were able to relax. It's close enough to head in to Narobi for the day, but is a wonderful respite away from the busy city.

Brackenhurst is not a luxury resort or anything like that - the accomodations are simple, though very clean and well maintained, and the on-site activities are pretty limited. But it is beautiful, peaceful and very comfortable. When I return to the Nairobi area, I really can't imagine wanting to stay anywhere else.
