“Great Views”
Reviewed 4 May 2012

We came to Tineghir from tents on the Sahara, so this hotel seemed relatively luxurious. The hotel is built at the top of the highest hill in the city. Many rooms, mine included, offer a terrace with terrific views of the city center below and the oasis created by water flowing down from the High Atlas Mountains. My room was medium sized with functioning power, light, television and plumbing. The hotel was clean and the dining room good for breakfast.

Room Tip: Top floors have a terrace with fine views.

This hotel had a good location up a small hill about 5 min from the main street. The rooms were quite basic but very clean with great balconies giving great views. The pool area was also great but March is a bit chilly to be swimming.

This hotel reminded me of the good old days Rusia was still the USSR. All that can be broken, was broken, such as toilet, bath, curtains, television, doors etcetera. And the furniture and decoration was exactly like in the fifties. No problem, but don't call yourself a four star hotel, when you can't meet that standard. And worse, instead of everywhere else in Morocco, the food was just bad. Never take the days menu in this hotel!
And all is so sad, because it is so unnecessary. The hotel has everything to be a great place: a good location, a good building, great surroundings and great views. It only seems to miss a good management, that can inspire it's staff to make it a great place for their guests.

The only good things about Saghro are the beds. These are firm, clean and good. And as promised, they gave us two connected rooms, one with a kingsize bed and one with a double bed. We only had to pay twice the price they confirmed us by e-mail. So be sure to check and double check before you book here. Anyhow, there have to be better places near Tinghir to stay for a view nights.

The rooms were the usual Moroccan clean-meaning they don't bother with walls and corners, places you don't touch directly. The beds were ok. I had a nice view out of my room of the deserted kasbah next door.
The main people were not that friendly, but the guy that does all the work, like getting a light bulb, carrying luggage etc, was VERY friendly and helpful.
Great views from the 3rd floor, great for sunrise and sunset photos, of the surronding area, from High Atlas to Anti Atlas Mtns.
Wifi in the lobby only.
They made fresh Berber Bread for breakfast, which was a nice touch. Perhaps what makes it 5 star. The lobby was really nice, and I am sure the pool, which was gorgeous, would be great in the summer.
It was a 5 minute walk down the hill to town, or taxis to Todra Gorge.

The walls were beyond paper thin and you can hear entire conversations from the next room. There were numerous power blackouts while we were there, but I'm not sure if this is an ongoing problem or not. There was hot water but a dodgy showerhead. There were delicious freshly made pancakes at breakfast but dinner was bland. The beds were hard, the TV was tiny and their internet cafe was not working.

Painted entirely in pastel colors and light at heart, I found this hotel to be rather charming, one of my favorite places on our trip. Others might say it's a little dated, but I guess it depends on your perspective. The view is spectacular and is worth the stay on its own, but I really liked pretty much everything about this place and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Tinerhir (which is quite beautiful btw). Definitely qualifies as an oasis in the desert. I am very glad we chose to stay here versus somewhere in Ouarzazate.

We did overnight at this hotel on our way to Skoura, from Merzouga. Objective was to break the long drive and visit the nearby Todra Gorge. Which by the way in the most scenir of the two Gorges.

The hotel is located on a hilltop with amazing views over town. You can also ask a room with a view. We got the one in the tower (so to speak), not a big window but decent view.

The money section of the place, however, is the pool plus Terrace. Pool is really great. We arrived at the end of the morning and had it for a couple of hours for ourselves. And then came back at the end of PM and were pretty much solo until end PM, when a tour group arrived.

Rooms are OK. And for a 350DH per day for two Breakfast included, it's unbeatable value. Breakfast wasn't anything to write home about. And we didn't have dinner there, so I can't comment. However, in retrospect, I wish we did. Dinner caters to tour groups but still would have been better than that other place recommended in Rough Guide, and that was empty and felt like a mix of café/local Hotel/Restaurant. We had lunch in another place recommended in RG. The guy takes your order and, literally, goes shopping for ingredients:) It is highlighted as such in the guide. Yes, you should not be in a hurry but it was worth it. It's located on the main street in front of the main place

Nothing really negative to say about the place. Usually I would rate it as a 4 but given the amazing value at less than 25% the cost of some Riad nights I think it well deserves a 5

PS: Not to be confused with another hotel from the Kenzi chain, located in the same town!

PPS: If you are coming/going to Merzouga, I would recommend taking the straight line between Merzouga and Tinerhir instead of transiting through another town. Can't remember but it's obvious on a map. Very quiet roat, almost no traffic, typical villages, not to mention shorter route. A highly recommended drive!
