A home away from home. Stayed in the luxury chalets. Private dam access, pet friendly, clean, nicely stocked bar fridge, AMAZING scenery. Loads of activities. The restaurant can do with a menu makeover. Also the snappy and barking little dogs of the owners irritated me in the restaurant. Luckily we were geared for self catering. Otherwise a very pleasant family experience. We cannot wait to visit again.

Being unable to find suitable accommodation where we could get an evening meal in Mariental we eventually found the Resort and booked in.
It is a popular place, particularly with the local people. We had a room in a group of four, approximately 1km from the reception area. The parking area was pretty rough, thankfully we have a robust SUV and were able to handle the conditions. Space was also very limited by our room.
The room and shower was very adequate although I would not want to spend too long there as the fan would struggle to keep us cool during the day when the temperature hits the high thirties.
The dinning facilities look very nice, it over looks the dam and seems very popular. Not much of what was on the menu was actually available. I had an excellent spiced beef starter, which fortunately was big enough to be a main! My main and my wife's main arrived at the same time as my starter. My wife's main was cold and mine was also sent back as their timing was awful. We eventually got our mains almost an hour after the starter, the kitchen really needs a wake up call! At least the wine was good.
In fairness to the management we were not charged for the mains. It was disappointing to see a place with so much potential, let down by the kitchen. Perhaps we were just unlucky as it was after all a Sunday evening?

Room Tip: I hope that the restaurant manager gets kitchen in order and that adequate quantities of product kep...

We stayed one night in early October as a stop-over between Etosha and Sesriem. It took us about 5 hours 30 minutes driving time from Etosha Village to Lake Oanob.
The welcome at reception was excellent and the self-catering chalet fully met our expectations. It was clean, well equipped for cooking, and everything worked. Lovely big veranda.
The setting was tranquil with a super view across the reservoir. There was added interest from various antelope grazing nearby.
Breakfast in the restaurant was pleasant but nothing special.
Lake Oanob worked perfectly to break up the long journey; also we would have happily stayed longer just to relax and enjoy the place, but our programme was already fixed.

We were camping at Lake Oanob and had a great time. The campsite was huge, with its own bathroom, kitchen area and covered deck overlooking the lake. It was a short walk to the bar and restaurant. Everyone was very friendly and we would gladly stay again.

After spending a week at the fantastic Namibs Valley of a thousand hills, we needed accommodation on the way to Keetmanshoop and I read about Lake Oanob on TripAdvisor. Everyone commented about the bad food, but as it was the only spot on our route, we decided to keep an open mind and give it a go. After 4 hours on dusty roads, what a breath of fresh air to arrive to a massive lake of beautiful water against the stark emptiness of the landscape. AND see some wild game! We were given a map to a stunning "chalet" which was more of a home than a chalet. It belongs to a Dutch couple who is obviously very proud of it (pity about the horrible couch!). The views from the deck were amazing, the bird life wonderful and the sunset really nice. Very quiet and relaxing, although freezing in July! We popped over to the restaurant to have some fish and chips for lunch, thinking surely that was easy enough, but no, very disappointing, although the staff was friendly. Feeling of the restaurant was very dirty, smelly and old. Luckily we had our own food so could make dinner and breakfast at the house. Maybe they should just close the restaurant completely and call it a self-cateriing resort. We won't be back soon, hopefully in a couple of year's time the restaurant has been upgraded and new chefs employed. Pity, because the place itself is really lovely.

The lodge is wonderfully situated on the lake. As other "Trip Advisors" have sated, the drive to the lodge is rather bumpy, to say the least. However, this is Africa and not Europe. My Chalet was comfortable and clean and thankfully had an electric heater as it got quite cold at night !
The restaurant is also well situated on the lake which is OK during the day but in June in the evening it was very cold and the staff had problems getting the gas heaters working. The food could have been good if it had been warm ! Just couldn´t understand how the they could serve luke warm food when the kitchen was only about 10 yards from our table.
The eggs for breakfast took ages to prepare and although three of our group said no bacon, they promptly came with !!! The final straw was the fact that they couldn´t get the coffee machine to work, so after one cup it was over to tea !!! This lodge is in Swiss hands and I would have thought that they could get the restaurant staff to pull their fingers out !

Room Tip: All the rooms are good, it´s just the approach that could be hairy!

Beautiful surroundings and friendly staff. Would definitely stay again. However whilst we were trying to enjoy the peace and quiet of the lovely lake setting three rooms down seemed to be the staff hangout where all the staff sat for a couple of hours in the afternoon chatting and laughing, which as we went for a walk could be heard all across the lake - not so peaceful and relaxing as we had hoped. The staff we came across were helpful and friendly and the service was good. The food was average.

Room Tip: chose a private chalet rather than a room, those chalets looked stunning and should be away from whe...
