Going to Obudu Mountain Resort (OMR) was a journey i was keenly looking forward to. Initially wanted to go there for my honeymoon but alas could not make it till now - about three years later travelling with my wife and infant. If going by road quite a journey from the main cities of nigeria - abuja, lagos, port harcourt. Depending on time of year and weather condition air flights to the bebi airstrip near OMR are not always available. The road up the mountain (11 km uphill) made my heart pound but really not an arduous task if you have a car in fair condition and some driving experience. definately not driving for novices or cars with faulty brakes! June to September is the coldest period at OMR with temperature between 4 and 10 degrees ccelsius. The busiest period at OMR iss between November and April with festivities, christmas, new year and fair weather conditions for hiking. The staff of OMR now under African Sun Hotels Group were friendly and very helpful. Even though cold and misty we were able to visit most sites such as the grotto - a cold water spring, holy mountain - a slave refuge post and becheve nature reserve where there is a 40m canopy walkway and tree houses for bird watching. Due to the cold weather we were unable to see the three surrounding waterfalls about 1 to 3 hours hiking distance away. The natural views on the mountain are breath-taking and can only be more marvelous during clear and warmer periods. The hotel pumps the mountain's natural spring water around its facilities. Apart from the long drive OMR is ideal for romantic getaways and those seeking recuperation from the hassles of modern life. One can see all the sights in a few days then kick off and sleep breathing the mountain's pristine air. The rooms are fine and the restaurant food was good. i can only expect better during the busier times of the year. The only vexing issue i encountered was related to policies surrounding the use of the resort's cable car such as the cable car will only work if more then 5 people have booked and at hourly schedules. What about guest privileges i asked? The resort rations its power supply since still on generator but efforts are being made to provide 24 hour electricity but we did not mind for the weather was cool and natural beauty occupied us
