Owner description: Take an exhilarating ride on a bobsled at this former event site for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games.

We took my 11 and 9 year old to the bobsled run to give them a bit of a thrill on our recent vacation. We knew it would be expensive, but our kids are both pretty daring and they enjoy thrill rides. We thought this would be a unique experience for them given the location and the history of Lake Placid.

$60 per child, $8 each for my wife and I to watch. About 5 minutes for them to get in place and 43 seconds coming down the bobsled run. They get off and looked underwhelmed. Earlier in the summer we went to Hershey Park in PA and they rode the new SkyRush coaster. They thought that was far more thrilling than the bobsled.

It's unique, we don't regret letting them do it, but if you've been on a modern coaster, the thrill won't come close. Knowing what I know now, I'd save the money and rent the jetboat on Lake Placid for another hour.

We thought the attraction was very cool and filled with interesting history. Unfortunately, the staff was very rude and unhelpful. There was no welcome from the two people behind the desk.....too busy with facebook I'm sure........no eye contact, only focused on their screens, and only one word answers about the bobsledding attraction. We certainly felt like we were bothering them. I commented on the price only to have one of them state arragantly "The upkeep is expensive". He did not describe the length of the ride, the speed, or what was involved. He certainly did not try to intice us with the thrill of the ride and there was no mention of any other attractions the place offered. We left politely said good bye only to have no response from the two.

Although only 42 seconds, the Bobsled experience was one wild ride. It was on the 1980 run and of course the sled was on wheels. I highly recommend it. We had also taken the tour of the complex and was allowed to walk down the new Bobsled run, which was quite exciting as well.

"Been there, done that, got the t-shirt".
Literally this is an experience we will one day depict to our kids and our grand kids, of course emphasizing our bravery and the speed at which we descended the track.

Was the ride thrilling? We certainly weren't disappointed by the ride itself, all 39.24 seconds of it! We pumped the driver and the braker to ensure we would make the best time of the day and we in fact left the track with eternal bragging rights.

Was it worth it? Of course it was. The price is at the high end of what people will accept to pay for a good story to tell. For 70$, we received all that is required to promote the Bobsled Experience back home: a t-shirt, a pin and a printed photo. We also felt satisfied knowing this 6,400$ / hour activity is an important fundraiser that ensures maintenance of the Olympic infrastructure in Lake Placid.

What else should one know about this? 1- This is not a world class experience. The ride is the only memorable aspect of this activity. 2- This is a safe activity for children, teens and adults. It is thrilling but is not gut wrenching, certainly not when compared to roller coasters. 3- You will never watch bobsled competitions like you did before.

My whole family enjoyed our visit to the Bobsled and Luge Complex. Our guided tour of the track was interesting and informative. We learned alot about the US Olympics and bobsledding in general. After the guided portion we were given the option to walk down the track. The bobsled experience where you can ride in an actual bobsled was amazing too!
