My family and I have been repeat visitors of Lake Placid Lodge over the years. Apparently this lovely property is under new ownership and management. Having arrived for a three night Labor Day stay we immediately realized that young children are now welcome here. We awoke the first morning in our $1000/night lakeside suite to the din of children yelling and running in the suite directly above us, at 8am.
The more pressing issue was that we learned that a wedding was to be held the Saturday afternoon/evening of our stay. We were not informed of this when we booked the trip, and were told, once there, that it is “not the policy” of the hotel to inform other guests of weddings taking place at the Lodge. The day manager assured me that the wedding would be held on the first floor, “and would not impact” other hotel guests; moreover he clearly stated that it would be over by 9pm. At 5:30pm, the blaring music began, to be heard in both restaurants, and all common areas. At 8:30pm our family was sitting by the fire, subjected to the tunes from the movie “Saturday Night Fever”, when we wanted only to enjoy the serenity of the lake and mountains. This continued until 10pm.
After complaining vociferously to the general manager, C.J., he reluctantly deducted one night’s stay from our bill. He implied that I had a problem because I was the person who spoke up about the infringement of four - five hours of extremely loud music on the premises of Lake Placid.
Management needs instruction on polite interaction with guests. Those booking at Lake Placid Lodge should be aware that it is incumbent upon them to inquire about potential loud events which might mar the experience of a stay at Lake Placid Lodge.
