We just got back from 1 three day stay at this hotel, and we had a great time. We stayed in cottage 8 which had 2 bedrooms (each with a bathroom), as well as a living room with fireplace, dining area and kitchenette. It had cable TV and Wi-Fi. They provide the sheets and towels and daily cleaning (more like hotel that cabin service). Its’ perfect for a family of 4. This cottage is in the back of the property and beyond the parking lot overlooks a grassy area (with lawn chairs and grills) that goes down to the lake. The only (slight) disappointment was the deck. The website indicates a “private lake view deck”. I naively imaged myself having cocktails sitting on a spacious deck directly overlooking the lake. In fact there is a very small deck (just wide enough for a table without chairs), which overlooks the parking area (i.e not private), but you can see the lake from there. However, overall their lakeside location is fantastic. They have 1 rowboat, 2 paddleboats and 4 canoes that you can take out onto to their bay area of the lake. It’s great for kids or people without boating experience (like us) because it’s shallow and there’s no motor boat wake or current. There is an indoor heated pool, hot tub and sauna in one of the main buildings. There is also a separate outdoor (lake filled) pool with adjacent beach area in the front of the property. It was cold, but we went in it one time. There’s a RiteAid and Deli across the street, and a Howard Johnsons restaurant next door. It’s a 5-10 minute walk to downtown lake placid, which is more touristy. There are many many day hikes within a 5-10 minute drive. I am sure we’ll be back.

We stayed two days on an August weekend. My reaction was more like "pleasant stay" than "finally found what we were looking for". The rooms were dated, but spacious and clean. A refrigerator and microwave were provided. We stayed in a poolside room without a view and were pleasantly surprised by the sun deck. Canoes and paddle boats were available at no charge, but we didn't take advantage due to the cool weather. The location was good if you wanted to be near town (ten-fifteen minute walk on sidewalks). However, I was expecting something with more of an Adirondack nature (and less touristy) based on some of the reviews. Yes, there was a view of the lake, but it was shallow and not swimable. The grounds were really quite small, and the inn itself was right on Route 86. Still, compared to the prices of the other area hotels, Wildwood was a good value. The lobby was wood paneled and had a fireplace. This provided an atmosphere a bit more like an inn than a motel. The staff were very friendly, but there was not a lot of services. The indoor pool and jacuzzi were appreciated due to the inclement weather. There was also an outside sun deck for the indoor pool, weather permitting. I am not sure whether I would have used the outdoor pool due to its roadside location. It was really more of a pond than a pool, but I think kids would enjoy it.

What a wonderful and affordable place to stay. There are a lot of neat shops within walking distance. If you like to fish or just want to go out on the lake, you can get canoes, paddle boats, or a row boat. It was great, you could go out for however long you wanted. The room was cozy and very clean. It was a great romantic weekend. The staff was really wonderful. My boyfriend proposed that weekend and they were kind enough not only to congratulate us, but to bring us a bottle of Champagne. I don't know a lot of other places that would be so nice! I would definitely stay again and I recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, quiet, getaway that won't break the bank!

Stayed at the the Wildwood on the Lake Motel this past weekend. Was in town for a rafting trip which was more than an hour away. Check in was pleasant, the room was clean - however not enough lighting was present. Beds were comfortable and the shower was nice and hot! Spacious and nice patio out in the back - leading to the lake. Only complaint was that the pool was not heated as advertised but the whirlpool made up for it! Location was great as it was near to all the shops and restaurants and close to Main Street. Lake views were breathtaking especially in the early morning. Went paddling in the afternoon but they also have canoes. Price was a bit more than what we wanted to pay but due to last minute plans, we booked with them. We were not disappointed.

We've been visiting Lake Placid a couple times per year for the last 20, or so. We stayed at a variety of places -both on Lake Placid and on Mirror Lake (the Village of Lake Placid is along Mirror lake. Lake Placid -the lake, is adjacent. All are within walking distance of each other).

We just left the Wildwood-on-the-Lake yesterday thinking we enjoyed the place more than any of the others.

-Not to take anything away from the other places, necessarily. But we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We found the owners and staff to be very friendly and helpful. The setting on the lake is beautiful. The pool outside is gravity fed right out of the pristene lake and flushes completely every 24 hours. And, there's an indoor pool for those partial to warmer water. Stuart lit a campfire on the lakeshore every night.

Canoes, paddleboats and rowboats are available to explore the lake. Whenever I venture out on the water, I find it gives me a different perspective of an area that you don't get from the shore. Looking back at the town and the Wildwood from out on the lake is a special treat.

Our room was reasonably priced and was very clean and comfortable. We are looking forward to returning in the winter.

Recently stayed at Wildwood on the Lake in a Lakeside room with my husband and our two grandchildren. We had a wonderful time. The kids loved the outdoor lake water pool and the boats up on the lake front. My husband grilled out on the lawn with bbq's that they have (bring charcoal), and we were able to enjoy the lakefront for 3 nights. The rooms were very charming and had 2 queen size beds. There was a small table and chairs which was great for the kids to play games, and have snacks. The rooms had mini fridges, microwaves, and coffee makers, and anyone traveling with children will tell you what a valuable amenity it is to have these items at your disposal. We were able to pick up milk and cereal at the local grocery store which was a great way to keep breakfast costs minimal. We also had juice boxes for the kids, and bottled water for the adults. The microwave made making popcorn in the room very easy and the kids were able to have a night time snack without having to run to the store or spend a lot on snacks. The staff was friendly and helpful. Any concerns were immediately addressed, and the manager was onsite a lot of the time available to answer any questions as well.
The indoor pool was great on a day that it rained. My husband enjoyed the whirlpool and sauna as well. Overall it was a wonderful family vacation. We will definately return. I recommend for families of all ages!!
