“Best German food outside Europe!”
Reviewed 31 August 2007

The hotel is pretty basic but the staff are excellent and the German food is WONDERFUL! It is also in the south German tradition of coming in huge quantities, so plan your meal carefully. Service is excellent, with none of the "Hi, I'm Jack, I'm your waiter" nonsense. The food, drink, service and ambience of the dining room really do combine to make you feel you are eating in Europe. As far as we were concerned, it was the best German food we had eaten outside Germany or Austria.

We arrived late, and the staff was most helpful. It's a pretty basic motel though. You drive up, and it's a room with 2 beds. Right next to a sometimes busy road, but across from a golf course - so pretty nice. Very utilitarian.

Ate here twice during our four day stay in the area. Service was excellent as was weiner schnitzel, bavarian platter, spatzel, etc. Start with warm sourdough rolls and soft pretzels and finish with apple streusel. Kids were happy too - chicken fingers and pasta with butter sauce (no kids menu but just ask waiter). Reasonable prices. Half the menu had Italian choices but everyone seemed to be enjoying the German side of the menu.

The restaurant and a busy ski season must be what keep this place in business. It's rundown and the staff (with the exception of the girl at reception and a handyman) were not only not helpful but downright rude. Everytime you had to ask for something (for example - could we have a room where the lights work?), you were treated like you were bothering them. I can only assume that the restaurant keeps the place going - we were one of two out of 16 rooms booked the night we were there. The room we had was rundown and unkept (peeling paint, broken window etc). When I asked for a different room, they gave me the keys to another room which I'm sure had not been opened since ski season 1992 - in worse shape than the one we'd been given. We tried to check out a day early but were told they'd charge us anyway so we relented and stayed. It left a bad taste in my mouth for LP unfortunately. Lucky for us, the shop clerks were friendly and helpful.
