We were a little concerned to discover that this building is in the middle of a bustling town on a very busy road; I booked the room because of the great reviews and didn't check out the location very carefully. However, our suite was in the rear of the building and we heard very little road noise. The view of Mirror Lake is breathtaking, and the apartment had an open floor plan with high ceilings, perfect for kicking back and relaxing. The room comes with a parking permit for the municipal lot across the street. This is the "city" experience of the Adirondacks and you can even walk all the way around the lake on a sidewalk.

Room Tip: We stayed in Apartment 4. Only one flight of stairs!

This place has it all...
-Beautifully fully furnished appartment on main steet in the center of town
-Large balcony directly facing mirror lake and the great range with mount Marcy dominating
-A great host who is very accomodating makes you feel very welcomed
We stayed in unit 4 which was especially fun because it is a corner unit with windows everywhere and from the balcony you can people watch passers by on main street on one side, and then turn around and enjoy the serenity of the lake and mountains on the other.
My husband and I travel quite a bit and the Haus is was way up there as one of our most memorable stays !

We loved our stay at the start of August in Suite 8. This is without a doubt, the BEST view in Lake Placid. Serene enough to enjoy the true, early morning, mirror-like qualities of Mirror Lake and active enough to watch the day and city unfold as the kayaks hit the lake and people hit the streets. This suite faces the lake but is also on the corner so you can view the park. It felt very private and was surprisingly quiet for being right downtown. The suite was comfortable enough for our family of four. The kitchen had everything we needed. Anthony, the owner was super-helpful. The place was very clean and nicely decorated. Although the weather was quite warm, the balcony doors opened up to a wonderful breeze and we were surprised by the lack of insects! We kept the doors and windows open and it was fine. There is an air conditioner in the bedroom which we did need. We have found over the years that many rentals in Lake Placid do not have central air but it was nice to have cool air for the bedroom. Overall we loved it. We have spent the summer in various hotels and it was nice to have a place like this where we did not feel boxed in. We will try to book this again next year!

My fiancé and I recently stayed at The Haus. We were able to reserve
Unit 10, new rental located right on the water of Mirror Lake. This
room was huge with a BEAUTIFUL kitchen and dining room. The dining
room had two sliding doors that opened up to the patio, which is
relatively large with furniture and a beautiful garden. There is also
a fence put up separating the patio from a small park located right
next door, so we still had our privacy. Our 2 friends stayed in the
room upstairs, which had a queen size bed and their own private
bathroom, while my fiancé and I shared the master bedroom. There is a
spiral staircase that leads to the room upstairs, which was very cool
:) The master bedroom had 2 big windows that looks out on Mirror Lake
and it was a very nice and relaxing feeling to wake up and go to bed
looking at the lake. There is also a very large bathroom down stairs
with a HUGE jacuzzi tub. We also had our own washer and dryer in the
bathroom to do our laundry, which came in very handy since we stayed
for 4 days in a row. The kitchen had concrete counter tops and
everything we needed for cooking in. Plenty of cutlery and dishes.
There is also a dishwasher and we were provided with our own dish
detergent, but not laundry detergent. Overall, our stay was
magnificent. We all enjoyed our stay at The Haus, (great value), and
the owner and housekeeping were very polite and competent.

Had a lovely stay at The Haus. The owners were wonderful and the accommodations were beyond my expectations. Comfort and class. Very clean. Great kitchen, huge apartment space. Open spaces, sleek design. Can't beat the great central location on Main Street, Lake Placid. Loved their information book for fun suggestions on what to do in the area when visiting. Owners went above and beyond making me feel at home. Will definitely come back.

We stayed in unit 5, two small bedrooms, completely supplied kitchenette with all the full sized appliances of home, bathroom with all the amenities and a great shower. The walk-in closet was huge. Anthony the owner is very friendly and willing to help with anything. The $2 daily parking pass is a bit of a nuisance ( and complicated); because during the summer you can park on Main Street overnight, and during the day there is free parking a short walk away, if you know the village like we do.
It's like having your own apartment in a big city like Ottawa with touches of Adirondack charm in the flat.

Much yuppier than the big name hotels is the way I would describe it. The air conditioner while noisy does the job in the bedroom, but most nights fall into the 50's and 60's so we prefer to open the windows, although the chatter from the restaurant across the street is obvious if you are staying in village facing unit, rather than the lake.
All in all a great spot, we will return. Great to be on the main drag. Oh yah, great dining at The Brown Dog a few doors away.

Room Tip: Book a Mirror Lake room for less Main Street noise

My husband and I stayed in Room 2 at the Haus in July 2012.

This is a fantastic location in Lake Placid - right in the middle of town, and super close to EMS where you can buy/rent everything you need for an active summer weekend.

Lake Placid is a bit old fashioned, both in terms of food and lodging, so a clean modern place in a great location is a great addition, and provides a more city-styled option (most places are Adirondack-styled and the execution is usually more miss than hit).

The Haus is lovely. Nicely decorated in simple modern-style furniture with high ceilings and big windows. The Adirondack style is brought in with old skiis placed artfully around, and some black and white photos. We had a 1 bedroom condo with a pull-out sofa, and the place had new appliances, a nice kitchen, pretty bathroom with Aveda shampoo/conditioner etc. We looked out over main street, and our place did not have a balcony. We noted that there are lake-facing condos that do have balconies (which would have been nice) and one with a little garden, that we will try to get next time.

The condo is not air-conditioned but there is a window unit in the bedroom, which we found a bit weak, especially because we couldn't choose to open the bedroom window. The living room-kitchen part of the condo, which has many windows, gets a cross-breeze and has a terrific ceiling fan. The bedroom could use a fan, or a more powerful a/c unit.

The shower worked well and the bath had jacuzzi jets, that spewed a little black goop when we first turned them on, but the problem self-corrected (I ran a second bath).

The place was very quiet. We were unaware of the other guests at all.

The Haus has no restaurant. We ate breakfast in the condo and used it to make lunches for our daily excursions (grocery store nearby). The condo had a limited number of plates and cutlery, but pretty well everything we needed.

We found the reservation system a bit odd. We confirmed by email but then needed to print, scan or fax back a signed form. I was really busy at work when we booked, and found this unnecessary as they already had our credit card information, and email information. We also found the owners a bit difficult with respect to a change to our reservation date (originally booked Friday through Monday, and changed to Thursday through Sunday, to deal with a work issue).

Parking is a hassle in Lake Placid and the Haus does not have parking. They give you a parking permit to use in the municipal lot down the street, and you can load in front of the Haus on Main Street. The permit must be returned when you check out at 11:00 a.m.. On the Sunday we left, we planned on going kayaking from 10am-2:30pm but learned that on Sunday, you cannot pay for parking in the municipal lot or on the street prior to 1pm, so we had to park fairly out of the way in order not to get a ticket. We asked the owners if we could use the pass until we left Lake Placid at 2:30 pm on Sunday, and they said no.

Vegan food in Lake Placid - food is mainly meat/fish based, with lots of ski-town style restaurants that were not suitable for vegans. For a town on a pretty lake, very few restaurants have patios overlooking the water. Most patios are on the road!

We ate at the pizza place (Ere's) in the buiding (they made a vegan pizza and rather sad salad with iceberg lettuce). They have a small patio overlooking the lake and little park.

We also ate at Cowboy just out of town. They had vegan ideas, but execution was a bit weak (sloppy black bean burger and undercooked yams in the Thai-style stirfry). The patio (on the side of the road leading into town) has a woodstove.

We had really huge burritos at a place on Main Street but can't recall the name.

The local grocery store stocked every vegan staple we needed - and we noted lots of Amy's frozen food as well.

As for activities, we hiked 2 days, including a day on Mt. Marcy, which was fantastic. We kayak'd the last day. We rented from EMS (who were so helpful) and portaged the kayak from Mirror Lake to Lake Placid, which is a lot quieter, and much bigger. The portage is hard to find, but doable. Would really recommend it. The guys at EMS will tell you where to have lunch without trespassing!

Room Tip: Lake side rooms have balconies and one has a garden.
