“Rewarding hike”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

This trail was moderate- short and somewhat steep in places. The view from the top was totally worth it and the trail (we did the loop) was very well marked. I would recommend this hike!

“Good workout for being out of shape”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

Liked that it was marked. I think I reached the summit but was not sure. If there is a marking then I didn't reach it but it looked like it based on my the info I had.

Great for someone not used to this type of climb.

“Tough but Worth It”
Reviewed 31 May 2014 via mobile

We arrived around 10:00 am on a Saturday and were turned around at the entrance and told to park 1 mile back down the road. Hiking back we took the route around Heart Lake, though we were disappointed the way did not really offer views of the lake. Somehow we ended up on the the way to Rocky Falls and went 3 adventurous miles out of the way. Finding our way back to the Long Trail up Mt. Jo, we scampered through the rock garden and worked our way to the top. What a view from the granite outcropping at the summit, especially with the sun finally breaking through clouds. Although the route to the top is about a mile, it is tough going, what with the tree roots and rocks you need to scamper over. Be careful or you will easily twist an ankle. And forget switchbacks, this is pretty much straight up the mountain! Total hiking mileage was 9.5 and 4 hours. Loved it, just remember it is not an easy walk through the woods.

“Not as easy as we thought!!!”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Just spent Memorial Day Weekend in the High Peaks region with the family. We were a large group of 15 ranging in age from 3-70. We decided to take on this hike as it was recommended by some as a great family hike. Although we had some hiking experience, we were way over our heads here. We took the short way up and long way down. The trail was wet, muddy, rocky, and overall way too much for the 3 year old and our 70 year old Matriarch. Nevertheless, we were determined and everyone made it to the summit. Just make sure you wear the proper gear and as a side note, before you reach the summit- there is some climbing through boulders 6-8 feet or so which could be cumbersome for some. As advertised, the views are incredible and you can see why it's such a popular hike. Can't way to try out the other peaks!!!

“Not for beginners!”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

Let me start of by saying i am not in any way a hiker, but did some smaller mountains. I read the reviews and thought it would be fun. There are two ways to get up there, short hike and long hike. People said the average climb was 45 min short way and 1.5 hour long way. That may be true but only if you are experienced. We took the short way up and it took us about a hour and 15 minutes. Yes i am the out of shape a few pounds extra girl so i am speaking honestly. Took about 7 breaks but we made it up there. The reward is great, what a stunning view when you get up top. The short hike is VERY rocky and you would be smart to wear hiking shoes and not running shoes like me. Falling face first into mud taught me a lesson...lol... But it can be very dangerous especially when wet and muddy as we climbed. We took the long way down and it took about a hour too. No breaks this time ;-) again, there were some dangerous areas without the proper gear. This is not a hike for young children.
