While spending the Columbus Day long weekend in Lake Placid we decided to return to Grill 211 for a steak dinner. It had been good a year ago but not so this time. There were a lot of visitors in town but when we entered Grill 211 only two other tables were occupied. My Wedge Salad (lettuce, tomato, blue cheese dressing) was good but my companion’s Caesar Salad was limp and bland. We each ordered a baked potato with our steaks (a New York Strip Loin and a Filet Mignon). Both potatoes were undercooked and needed more time in the oven. My ‘filet’ was thin and cooked way beyond medium. The strip loin was tough with chunks of gristle imbedded in the meat. Each plate came with a big chunk of broccoli which was mostly stem and little floret. Small stainless steel pots contained tiny servings (about a teaspoon each) of butter and sour cream. The red wine, however, was good. It was an expensive, but very average, meal. When we left there was only one other couple in Grill 211. We won’t be returning. There are much better steak places in town.
