Good thing we had an awesome room... First time in Lake Placid - we would highly recommend!

Stayed in the "Cottage" overhanging Mirror Lake, with beautiful views and great wrap-around porch. We had amazing (some of the best ever) Spa treatments and a great dinner at The View.

We spent a fair amount of money (so if you're looking for economy - skip this place), but really enjoyed ourselves. We will definitely return in the Fall when the leaves change.

This is NOT one of the best places in the US/world to stay as is advertised by the awards posted in the hotel and on line. We have travelled extensively so this is not an assessment without experience. Although it is a charming place with beautiful views and the staff is very attentive and well trained, there are many elements missing which create a great hotel or inn - for example there is no laundry service offered (we were told we needed to go to Saranac Lake for a laundromat! - there is no in hotel service), the rooms are not very clean (very dusty behind the radio, lamps, etc.), the elevator and hallways are not kept very clean (we saw debris in both areas which was left unattended for three days), the concierge service does not provide written guest reminders of reservations (we had to ask about the reservations we made - we assumed because of it's status as one of the best in the world, notice of reservations was a given), room service terminates at 11.00AM and resumes in the evening, no slippers were provided with the robes (we expected this and didn't bring slippers from home), there is one sink in the bathroom!, there was no explanation of the services provided when we arrived, i.e., locations of work out facilities, pool, internet availability, coffee/tea service, etc., - we had to ask if this was available when we needed/wanted it. These details make or break a good (expensive) place to stay. For over $500 per night, our expectation was that we would receive four star amenities and services. This is not the case at this establishment and we will not return nor recommend it.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for being our guest and for your feedback regarding your stay. We are pleased that you felt that the Mirror Lake Inn is a charming place with beautiful views and the staff is very attentive and well trained. Although somewhat easy to get to, Lake Placid is still fairly remote and some services such as overnight dry cleaning/laundry service are no longer available in our area. A written reminder for reservations is something that we have never provided and has never been something our guests have requested. Although we do not offer room service lunch from the main kitchen, to-go items are available from the Cottage during this time period of the day. Slippers have not been an amenity that many of our guests desire, but on a rare occasion that they are requested, we do keep some available. We did find some dust in your room and for that we are embarrassed and apologize, especially since the two most noted comments about the Mirror Lake Inn are as you stated the staff is very attentive and well trained and how clean our facility is. We are sorry that we disappointed you in that second area, but I am sure that you noticed by the overall condition of the facility how serious we take cleanliness. Our check in process is very thorough and we cover a lot of the detail you speak of. After speaking with the Front Desk agent she does recall your registration and remembers reviewing our property map and pointing out the amenities. I am very surprised that this many items were left out, however I appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Thank you again for being our guests and I hope you will reconsider and visit us again.

Sincerely,

Carl Gronlund, General Manager

My husband & I spent our Honeymoon at Mirror Lake Inn and fell in love with the resort, mostly with the four diamond restaurant and the location of the resort. However, when we tried to plan a trip back, the rates had significantly increased since our visit the year before (same time of year). We called several months before the intended trip but much to my dismay, the receptionist informed me that although the website stated that there was availability for the "Experience the View" package, that it was not available for the Noonmark Rooms (the room the package listed) but she could offer me a Marcy room for $315 a night. When I asked her if this was the package rate she said no and stated that the rate did not include anything. However she could offer me the package starting at $415 a night. The factors that made our Honeymoon unforgettably special and perfect were the serene location and the mouthwatering food in their four diamond restaurant. It is incomprehensible that they charge a minimum of $305 for mediocre rooms and decent service. We love to splurge and we did on our Honeymoon (trips to the spa, The Cottage, etc) however, not at a cost that outweighs quality. I understand that this is their business, however, it is obvious that this privately owned business is becoming more attracted to catering to the elite and unfortunately we (being of the middle class demographics), do not fit into that category. We were not looking for a steal, however it would be nice if there were practical rates to choose from. Since there were no reasonable alternatives to their room rate or the package, we chose to enjoy Lake Placid without emptying our wallet. Although High Peaks may not have a 4 diamond restaurant, their view was just as breathtaking and had just as beautiful of a view of the folliage and their mondern exquisite rooms were worth the rate. They also presented many alternatives to packages unlike Mirror Lake Inn. We will always treasure our Honeymoon memories at Mirror Lake Inn Resort, and wish that we could return, but much to our regret, they have unintentionally eliminated us from their clientele.

Great little hotel. Fabulous location. Very helpful staff. Very clean, great rooms. Excellent lobby and library to relax in. The Rise and Shine deal is very good value. Breakfast had a good choice and was well cooked and presented. The In-View restaurant in the evening is fine. Not upper end Manhattan or London, but still very good. The Cottage across the road for bar type food was good as well. Great spa and indoor pool facilities. Walking distance to the town centre of Lake Placid. We extended our stay by a couple of days. Would go back in a flash.

My husband and I vacationed in Lake Placid for over ten years. This was our first stay at the MLI. Last year we stayed at the Whiteface Lodge and previous years at The Whiteface Club. The Inn is clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The housekeeper noticed the bottle of wine we had in our room and left wine glasses in the room.

The view was great for the Marcy room and its a quick walk to the heart of town. We also enjoyed breakfast at The View each morning.

We stayed in the Terrace Wing and the room was small, dark and dirty. There was dust an inch thick on the carpet behind the bed and sofa. The vanity lights were so dusty the lights were dim. The rooms you see on their web site are the $500+ Cottage rooms, so if you book be sure you know what your accommodations will be.

The View Restaurant food was served at room temperature and was mediocre. The View was over-priced and we were very disappointed.

The one great item we did enjoy were their whole-wheat pancakes, they were the best we ever had.

Our advice, there are better places to go in the Adirondacks. Lake Placid is just a other beauty past her prime, filled with strip malls and vacant storefronts.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for being our guest. I was very surprised to read your comments regarding your stay. Out of the thousands of positive comments we receive about the service we provide we never hear that our Inn is “dirty”. The comments we receive most often are how friendly our staff is and how well maintained and clean we keep the Inn and “an inch of dust” is impossible. I am confused to how you would think the room you stayed in was small. It is larger than a standard hotel room, has a 12.5 foot cathedral ceiling, and a five foot balcony with unbelievable lake and mountain views. Additionally, most of our guests really appreciate the residential quality Harden furniture, marble and tile work in the bathrooms along with beautiful wainscoting paneling and mahogany flooring in the entrance ways. In fact, these rooms are our most popular rooms. If you take the time to look at our web site you will see that we have a picture of each category of rooms (not just the Cottage rooms as you claim) on our web site and each is accessible within two clicks. At the beginning of the month our Chef unveiled new menus in both the Bistro and The View and the reception has been overwhelming. I am glad you enjoyed the whole-wheat pancakes they are one of my favorites as well.

I was disappointed to hear that you felt Lake Placid is filled with strip malls. I can’t imagine how you come to that conclusion. The main street is filled with unique shops and our guests love to stroll from the Inn around Mirror Lake and then peruse all the shops in the village on their way back to the Inn. There are always a few vacant stores due to some turnover in businesses, but most of the stores have been here for years. I think that Lake Placid is one of the few towns left that still has that Main Street USA feel.

As always if a problem was brought to our attention we would have immediately resolved the situation to your satisfaction.

Sincerely,
Carl Gronlund, General Manager

I surprised my fiancee with a weekend at the Mirror Lake Inn for our dating anniversary. We have both travelled extensively and have stayed in some very expensive places so our standards are high. We were not disappointed at all. In fact I would say, it was the best service I'd ever had in any hotel ever and my fiancee agreed. They start you off with fresh choclate chip cookes at check in ( and they are there for you any time, as is hot coffee and tea). The room was simply beuatiful and more like a bedroom than a hotel room. It was cozy and large and furnished in beautiful wood furniture ( MARCY room) we had unobstructed view of the lake from our balcony and couldnt even bring ourselves to ever close the drapes.
The Inn has perfected the littel extras that are missing from chain hotels. Plush bath robes, a relaxing cd in the player ( which we lsitened to over and over-and were then given a complimentary copy when asked) lovely indoor pool, sauna and hot tub.
Breakfast was part of our package and that too did not disappoint. We both had the best flapjacks we had ever tasted. I mentioned this to the waitress and 5 minutes later I had the recipe in my hand. Ordely greely off the menu, no cold buffet-made to order, and not charged extra for anything.
Since we were only there for 2 night we had decided not to have the room cleaned. So we left the do not disturb on the door. The head of the cleaning staff left us a message-double cheking that we did not wish our room cleaned and to call anytime and they would come right over and tidy up. I have refused cleaning before and had never ever had anyone call me to make sure I was happy.
they asked at booking if we were celebrating anythingand i mentioned our anniversary. When we arrived we had 2 bottles of sparkling water, a box of homemeade choclates from the local choclate shop and an anniversary card. later they took our picture, printed in off in 5 min and put it in a MLI frame.
there is a fridge int eh room, if you want to bring some beverages or wine..
I could go on and on. We did nothing for 2 days but walk in town and stare at the lake. ( you could rent boats and swim in the lake, hike, fish, the spa.. etc..) our anniversary was better than I ever imagined it could be. We cant wait to go back.
