We stayed at Hakuna Matata for two nights in December. Very impressed by the rooms, the owner clearly put all his creativity into it, very beautiful. The room and bathroom are quite large, and both of the 'cases' have a little terrasse with a hammock. Both breakfast and dinner (not included in the price) prepared with a lot of care. If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful place to stay not far from the beach and Cap Skirring/Kabrousse Hakuna Matata is for you!

Hakuna Matata is owned and operated by a great guy who is extremely friendly in addition to being a wonderful chef. The campment is located about a 5 minute walk from the beach. The enclosed campement is very safe and clean. Each "room" is actually a small building, each of which is equipped with very comfortable beds, and a very well built bathroom with hot water for showers.

The price is well worth it for this encampment, especially for food, as the meals you'll eat for breakfast and dinner at Hakuna Matata are at least comparable, if not far superior to some of the food you'll find in town.

If you're looking for a campment in Cap Skiring, definitely go with Hakuna Matata -- you won't regret it.

THE BUNGALOWS
After a long drive from Kafountine, my boyfriend and I found Case Hakunamamata by some brilliant accident. I spent those six days riding around with “Hakunamatata = Pas de Soucis” written in the red dust on my rear window. The guesthouse so lovely and thoughtfully-done: two solid, cement bungalows (10,000 CFA = 20 USD per night) with high thatched roofs, quilted ceilings and quirky, artistic details everywhere. Even the blades of the ceiling fan are covered in cloth – I’d never seen that before. Nothing looks out of place: the room is beautiful in its simplicity. The bungalow is a temperate refuge from the midday Casamance heat. The bathrooms are spotless and crescent-shaped. There is a small patio outside each bungalow with wooden seats and a hammock chair; the communal garden is full of trees and has two proper hammocks for lazy couples like ourselves. There is a really pretty roofed lounge area outside with a stocked kitchen, an electric stovetop and an empty fridge for guests who feel like cooking; the area has pillowed booths to read or have breakfast in. There is no pool or room service but the beach is less than five minutes away on foot.

THE OWNER
Rene, the Senegalese rasta owner, is the kind of guy who finds out your boyfriend is ill and spends the afternoon mashing cure-all concoctions from fruit you’ve never heard of; he leaves his own birthday party on New Year’s Eve to bring free platters of shrimp and langoustine to your room because he knows you two haven’t eaten all day. He runs the guesthouse alone yet found time to carry us to a mechanic to ensure that we didn’t get fleeced. He is that lovely. He speaks French, as does everyone else in town. Rene lives in a house at the rear of the property where he achieves Zen and cooks guests breakfast (1,500 CFA per person) and tends to his cats and dog and gardens. His house also has two smaller, less private guest rooms for single travelers who don’t need much room. Rene will never impose himself on or disrespect your personal space, yet he is completely accessible and incredibly hospitable.

THE AREA
The guesthouse has a restaurant on the beach where (if you pre-order the night before) you can feast on crevettes, langoustines, gambas, and (sometimes) lobster in a shaded hut looking directly out onto the sand and the cows and the waves. You can walk to several restaurants and a small market on the same strip or you can bike/trek/call a taxi to reach the main road that leads into Cap Skirring proper with many more restaurants, bars, hotels, internet cafes, and shops. The guesthouse is not on the main road nor is there a signboard for it; the owner likes it that way. Anyone willing to forego Club Med and go a few steps off the beaten path is welcome, says Rene. To find Case Hakunamatata, follow the signs for La Maison Bleue; pass La Maison Bleue and continue towards Campement No Stress; the dirt road on your left just before you reach Campement No Stress leads to Case Hakunamatata. It’s a 1-2 minute walk from there; the guesthouse is the last house on the road. And every night you return home to Hakunamatata, you will sigh with relief.
