We just got off the plane from Uganda and I do not want to delay one moment to write about our fantastic stay at The Nile Porch. My wife and I normally stay at lower budget places but once we saw the accommodations and the view from the luxury tents there was no way we could go anywhere else. I must admit that we were also drawn in by the lovely new managers Lynn and Victor and their helpful and courteous assistant Devis (I hope I spelled that correctly.)
We had only one week in Uganda and 3 days in Jinja but Nile Porch helped us to feel like we were on a luxury vacation for much longer. The safari tents overlook one of the rapids so not only do you have a great view of the river but you sleep to the mesmerizing sounds of water rushing below your tent. (It is around 50 meters below so it is not too loud but soothing.)
The tents are self contained with spa-like outdoor showers and bathroom area. They have a hammock, outdoor chairs and a little garden in between your tent and the bank that goes down to the river.
We ordered coffee to our tent in the morning which arrived on time and we were able to drink fine wines in the evening sitting out watching and listening to the river go by. This of course was after dining in the romantic and tasteful Black Lantern Restaurant. I can only recommend the incredible Black Lantern Pork Ribs as I had those both nights because they were so good. Everyone else I asked about the restaurant said that they also had a great dining experience.
Even though we are normally medium to low budget travellers, we did decide to splurge a little but still found the Nile Porch to be affordable and incredibly good value for the money. My wife said she felt like a celebrity sitting above the river and drinking wine. It was just what we needed to top off a great trip.
Thank you to the entire staff who worked tirelessly to make everything perfect. You all are fantastic!

A fantatic hotel. Unique accomodation with some of the best views in Uganda. The food and service were good, the breakfast especially. Reflexology by the pool with Flo from the village was lovely. Visitors can assist the village by purchasing locallly made keepsakes sold by Flo and her friends at the entrance to the resort. All in all a fantastic experience that I would reccommend to everyone.

The Nile Porch was an oasis in our African adventure. We were in Uganda for just 10 days visiting our son, exploring Uganda and kayaking the Nile. The Porch's Black Lantern restaurant looks out of the Nile, through trees frequently full of monkeys. Wonderful omelets for breakfast and generally fine meals, though we ate some meals in town for variety. Just a pleasant place for coffee, Internet, monkey watching, contemplating the Nile and enjoying Uganda.
People were delightful. Fresh produce from subsistence farms was wonderful including jack fruit, bananas, mangoes, sweet potatoes etc.
The Porch had only one other review here, not positive. I thought I'd write as we had a delightful experience. We went as my son was staying at the attached campground and dorm, the Nile River Explorers and knew this place, said it was the best. We found it clean, the staff delightful, most helpful. Nice swimming pool, excellent restaurant. An idyllac place in many ways.
Visit soon if you like the free flowing Nile. A new dam is going in next year that will turn this raft and kayak section into a lake. If you like lakes, go later. In any case the place is beautiful.

This truly is an awful hotel - don't let the website fool you. I'm sure about 12 years ago it was quite nice and clean and well maintained, but it really is horrible now. What are described as 'luxury' on the website are really far from the truth. Our tent was fly infested, the outdoor toilet was broken, the shower didn't work (or on the one ocassion it did work it trickled cold water).

Also on the website you'll find the words "End your day with a sumptuous meal at the Black Lantern Restaurant before retiring to a well deserved peaceful nights sleep". First off, the food was disgusting. I'm not a fussy eater, but when the food is sweaty, cold and tastless you have to draw the line. Another part of the dining experience is the number of different types of flies that wander across your tables and land on your plate. We spent more time swatting than eating.

We also fell foul of a little friendly waiter how kept trying to sell us more wine - usually by pouring the glasses to the neck then suddenly running out at the last person - an old trick, but still irritating.

Finally, if that isn't enough to put you off, then you should bear in mind that you'll be sharing the facilities with the camp site, which during out visit consisted of numerous students throwing up and falling over. Luxury and peaceful is definitely not how I'd describe the Nile Porch - I'd recommend looking at somewhere like The Haven, which we we told is very nice (unfortunately too late) - AVOID!!!
