“Attention to Detail”
Reviewed 17 November 2012

We were looking for somewhere new to stay in Jinja and had heard about Holland Park from a friend of ours. We didnt know much about the place before we arrived so were blown away buy the beautifully landscaped gardens and amazing view over the Nile when we arrived. We were greeted by one of the owners, Wim, who was more than helpful showing us the stunning cabins and how everything worked.

There were many things I liked about Holland Park, one was the attention to detail in the rooms. Many of the fixtures and fittings were apparently imported from overseas and you can it see it in the way the door and windows close with a nice solid "thunk". I also liked the fact that even though Holland Park is set on a large sprawling piece of river bank, the owners havnt gone and built on every square metre of land, all the cottages are nice and spaced out and give you a nice feeling of privacy.

There are not any facilities for buying prepared food such as a restaurant, however the cottages have fridges, sinks, stoves and a bar-be-que. It didnt take much effort to stop in Jinja on the way in to pick up supplies and it actually made a nice change to cook our own food after staying in lodges/hotels for a week!

I went several times around Jinja. I stayed overnight at various places. Without the slightest hesitation and by far I prefer Holland Park -where I already stayed several times. It's the best quality/price balance I've seen in the area. You get your own private accommodation, (either a small house or tent), with kitchen including the basics, living area, bathroom and bedroom –the garden and direct views on the Nile is there for all. If you find anything missing, Wim and Monique, (the owners who live on the compound), will happily attend.
It’s a quiet place in splendid green setting. Bird lovers and bird photographers will love it –I do. It is also Wim’s interest which he gladly shares with you. He can also take you out on a boat ride to see even more birds.
If there is any drawback that I could think of it's just that you must bring your own food. While this suits us perfectly well, some travelers may find this inconvenient. But I'm sure Wim and Monique could organize something for you. Alternatively you could get to hustle and bustle of Jinja for dinner and then return to the peace of Holland Park for the night.
Conclusion: I’m planning and looking forward to visit again soon.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the safari tent. It was completely equipped with a kitchen and ensuite with a hot shower! My favourite thing is that the whole set-up is solar and completely eco-friendly. Wim and Monique are wonderful hosts who only add to Holland Park's charm! It is the perfect combination of luxury and nature.

Room Tip: The safari tent makes you feel like you're camping but still has all the perks!

My husband and I live in Kampala and love to go to Holland Park for the weekend. The location is absolutely stunning with panoramic views of the Nile River. The owners have also landscaped the grounds. Each of the cottages has kitchen, so you can bring you own food and cook your meals on the premises. There are also BBQs with all the necessary starters, so you can grill as well. The owners are delightful and helpful (including offering local eggs when we forgot ours). I hear that there are a number of activities in the area that the owners can help arrange, but we mostly go to lie in the hammock.

Holland park is the most beautiful place to stay. Affordable luxury... spotlessly clean cottages ..well appointed... lovely furnishings ... and the view of the Nile is amazing.
The cottage was lovely......
The bed is very comfortable with good quality linens.
The bathroom is large with a great shower and good quality clean towels.
The kitchen is well appointed with all that you need.
The veranda is a nice spot to sit in the afternoon and look out over the water.

Set on 12 acres of green grass, flowers, and trees on the banks of the Nile. Daily visits from a range of bird life and monkeys ... they are entertaining !

Wim and Monique are very helpful hosts, always available for what ever you need. The dogs and cats make it feel like home. The staff are extremly friendly and happy. A very friendly place that makes you feel comfortable and safe behind the big gate which is manned for security.

Boat rides are available with Wim ..he gets you up close and personal with the birdlife !
The drive to Jinja is about 20 minuets but you can get fruit and vegetables locally and great grilled chicken, chapati and other local foods.

I have felt comfortable and safe for my stay here and look forward to returning next year.

We recently stayed at Holland Park in the Safari Tent with my parents in a cottage. They had stayed before and raved about it but this was our first visit, having been to Jinja many times now. The grounds of Holland Park are fabulous, beautifully maintained but still full of character. The tent has a truly wonderful view of the Nile and it is addictive sitting on the day-bed watching the bird and animal life as the day potters along. Wim & Monique (and dogs, cats and chickens) make the place such a special and relaxing place to stay and in particular Wim's boat trips to explore the bird life of the lake are memorable. Amazing access to the extraordinary birds and the changing landscape of the river since the opening of the new dam.

Everything has been thought of for a great stay and it is quick and convenient to nip into Jinja town (should you wish to). We will absolutely go back and stay again.

Room Tip: The cottages are brilliantly equipped however the safari tent does just have a slightly better view...

These beautifully built and appointed cottages are perfect for self catering (there are catered options apparently) and their location is amazing with views all over the new dam , and the elusive palm nut vultures practically making pests of themselves overhead several times a day..such a treat . we opted to get closer and more personal with the bird life in the boat trips Wim offers....not only did he take us to all the good spots and quietly find us our Jacanas and immature fisheagles (amongst a LONG list of others), but his quirky stories of bird habits over the past few years he's been watching the local birds made the whole experience so much richer and we rated it as a real highlight of our trip . My photos werent nearly as fabulous as his.......guess i need to come back and practise! There is nothing everyday about this trip.........thank you so much to Wim and Monique for everything
