Holland Park
Ranked #7 of 30 Speciality Lodging in Jinja
Reviewed 16 December 2012

I rarely write reviews of places I have stayed but I felt compelled to write one following my visit to the idyllic Holland Park in Jinja. The estate is set in 12 acres of manicured lawns peppered with beautiful tropical fruit trees, cascading down to the banks of the Nile. Words can simply not do the view justice; you just have to come and see it for yourself! The cottages are comfortable, spotless and private - great value for money compared to other places in the area. The owner managers, Wim and Mon are super friendly and always on hand should you need anything. They also run a fun boat trip on the Nile which is a nice way to experience the sunset with a cold beer in hand. It really is a place to leave all your worries behind and recharge your batteries. Can't wait to go back and visit again next year!

Room Tip: All the rooms are good so no need to worry!

Vishal, many thanks for your kind comment. This is the 40th excellent rating we have received and while we haven't replied to other comments on TripAdvisor, we would like to say a big thankyou to all our guests who have taken the time to provide their feedback - it really is appreciated.

2012 has been a fantastic year for Holland Park, and 40 excellent reviews is a big milestone for us. Our goal for 2013 is to ensure we maintain the peaceful ambiance and top-quality accommodation which our guests enjoy. Many of our guests return to Holland Park for subsequent stays which we are very proud of.

A happy festive season to all and we hope to see both new and familiar faces in 2013.
Wim & Monique

Stayed at Holland Park last weekend - charming would probably be the best word to describe it. After driving through a village off the main road, you arrive at the gate, greeted by a Holland Park Tube stop sign from London and the Dutch gentlemen who owns the place together with his wife - true to form, on a bicycle. The scenery is pretty stunning, about 20 meters above the Nile, with views of the warm, wide waters flowing slowly around small islands. The grounds are wide open and well-kept. And the cottages are perfect. A living area downstairs complete with kitchen, imported furniture, utensils, a fridge, salt, and even pepper (rare to find in Uganda). Then you go upstairs to find the beds - with the master bed next to a large window that faces east, so you awake to a sunrise view of the Nile. The owners are friendly, and will happily chat to you about any subject. There are no meals, but you can cook your own food there with the supplies provided - even a grill outside. For what you get, you could easily pay double the price, but Holland Park was very affordable. Highly recommended!

Holland Park is an amazing place to stay in Jinja - one of the most beautiful and peaceful settings in town (if not the best..). Perfectly cosy cottages surrounded by a sea of green dotted with lovely colourful flowers and set overlooking the banks of the Nile. Wim and Monique (the owners) will give you the friendliest welcome and their hospitality is priceless. We also got complementary eggs from their farm. The hens only eat mais or corn, so the egg yolks are a bright orangy-yellow and delicious! I wouldn't think twice about it, I'll definitely be back.

We were looking for somewhere new to stay in Jinja and had heard about Holland Park from a friend of ours. We didnt know much about the place before we arrived so were blown away buy the beautifully landscaped gardens and amazing view over the Nile when we arrived. We were greeted by one of the owners, Wim, who was more than helpful showing us the stunning cabins and how everything worked.

There were many things I liked about Holland Park, one was the attention to detail in the rooms. Many of the fixtures and fittings were apparently imported from overseas and you can it see it in the way the door and windows close with a nice solid "thunk". I also liked the fact that even though Holland Park is set on a large sprawling piece of river bank, the owners havnt gone and built on every square metre of land, all the cottages are nice and spaced out and give you a nice feeling of privacy.

There are not any facilities for buying prepared food such as a restaurant, however the cottages have fridges, sinks, stoves and a bar-be-que. It didnt take much effort to stop in Jinja on the way in to pick up supplies and it actually made a nice change to cook our own food after staying in lodges/hotels for a week!

I went several times around Jinja. I stayed overnight at various places. Without the slightest hesitation and by far I prefer Holland Park -where I already stayed several times. It's the best quality/price balance I've seen in the area. You get your own private accommodation, (either a small house or tent), with kitchen including the basics, living area, bathroom and bedroom –the garden and direct views on the Nile is there for all. If you find anything missing, Wim and Monique, (the owners who live on the compound), will happily attend.
It’s a quiet place in splendid green setting. Bird lovers and bird photographers will love it –I do. It is also Wim’s interest which he gladly shares with you. He can also take you out on a boat ride to see even more birds.
If there is any drawback that I could think of it's just that you must bring your own food. While this suits us perfectly well, some travelers may find this inconvenient. But I'm sure Wim and Monique could organize something for you. Alternatively you could get to hustle and bustle of Jinja for dinner and then return to the peace of Holland Park for the night.
Conclusion: I’m planning and looking forward to visit again soon.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the safari tent. It was completely equipped with a kitchen and ensuite with a hot shower! My favourite thing is that the whole set-up is solar and completely eco-friendly. Wim and Monique are wonderful hosts who only add to Holland Park's charm! It is the perfect combination of luxury and nature.

Room Tip: The safari tent makes you feel like you're camping but still has all the perks!

My husband and I live in Kampala and love to go to Holland Park for the weekend. The location is absolutely stunning with panoramic views of the Nile River. The owners have also landscaped the grounds. Each of the cottages has kitchen, so you can bring you own food and cook your meals on the premises. There are also BBQs with all the necessary starters, so you can grill as well. The owners are delightful and helpful (including offering local eggs when we forgot ours). I hear that there are a number of activities in the area that the owners can help arrange, but we mostly go to lie in the hammock.
