Stayed at this little motel this past July 2013. I don't think there are more than 10 rooms here and the parking lot is small and a little difficult to maneuver. The manager/owner was helpful. The rooms clean but very outdated. Needs a lot of work. A nice place to stay for a day or two. Would recommend and stay again.
Spouse and I agree with many of the previous comments. Bob and Mart are very nice and quite helpful. Room #6 has two twin beds, and a Lucy theme. The room is out of the past with its decor. I don't know if the microwave or the mini-fridge work; they are also old. It's your call whether you say the room is "retro" or "kitsch".
Be warned - the room was VERY SMALL. The bathroom is the smallest one I have ever seen, and the shower is the same. It can be very difficult to get showered, especially if you are not a skinny person. It was very difficult to navigate in such a small footprint. I do think the bathroom is a real negative, and it definitely affected my review.
There is no coffee or breakfast offering of any kind. Guests are lucky to have the esteemed Diamond Cafe next door to get you going. But you have to pay for that breakfast. I really missed not having at least a morning coffee "on the house" while getting dressed.
On the positive side, the mattresses were very good, and it is a very quiet neighborhood. The room was very clean. Mart is quite a gardener, and on that point, I give this motel an A+ for the exterior maintenance and landscaping. But the bathroom we had makes it unlikely that I'd want to return to the Fairmount Motel a second time.
I absolutely loved staying here! I was able to book the Lucy themed room as I was in town for Lucy Fest in Jamestown. This hotel is convenient to two lakes (Erie and Chautauqua) both are less than ten minutes away. Chautauqua Lake is just beyond the Motel and is in walking distance. There is a gazebo with plenty of seating on the Motel grounds just outside the room doors and a beautiful garden that supplies a nice scent throughout the area. The rooms are small but cozy and clean and very well maintained. This is a true gem. The owners Bob and Mart are very kind and friendly with great knowledge of things to do in the area. There is a fantastic diner called Diamond Cafe that is open for breakfast and lunch right next door less than 150 feet from your room door. This is a very quiet peaceful location accessible to Bemus Point and Jamestown. The Lucy room has two twin beds, a retro mini fridge, tv with cable, a/c and good lighting. It decorated with scenes from the I Love Lucy show and a MUST SEE if you come! Very very cute room! Because this is a small motel (there are 7 rooms total) it is a friendly welcoming atmosphere. I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful place and I hope many more people get to enjoy the excellent restful stay here! I will keep returning here every year! Contrary to the previous review, credit cards ARE accepted (I paid with one). There is a lot to do close by to the motel,lots of shops, post office, restaurants, movie theater (diagonal from Motel), parks, and much more. By far the most inexpensive place to stay that is central to everything. The motel is immaculately kept, comfortable beds, quiet rooms. PERFECT!
a railroad track, lightly used, runs right by this property, and don't be surprised to see Rod Serling on the next train, because the Fairmount Motel is right out of the past... small rooms, fabulous décor (largely a Lucy theme) and mis-matched appliances and furnishings, but comfy, and never better than when it rains, run by two nice gentlemen with a couple of beautiful dogs.... nothing in the area beats the fairmount for value and charm... but a reminder, tight quarters, don't go here with somebody you don't like...
