After fleeing Long Island before Hurricane Irene hit, we made it to Albany, NY after 7 hours in transit. We had no reservations and discovered when we got to Albany that the Saratoga races were on and most hotels were booked.
We managed to get a room with 2 doubles for $149 at Hotel Indigo near the airport which is convenient to the highway to Montreal. The room was pretty nice, hardwood floors, nice bedding, good finishes, Aveda bath products. The only downsides were the blinds weren't blackouts and there was a fairly strong smell of cigarette smoke, despite the fact it was a non-smoking room.
Breakfast isn't included, but there is a breakfast bar offering muffins, eggs, etc. in the hotel. It's part of the Holiday Inn / Marriott chain, so you can count points towards those chains.More
