The accomodations at any of the guest houses in Lily Dale are seriously lacking in creature comforts. The floors are old and squeaky and the bathrooms are really old and patched together. One bathroom for five or six rooms causes major scheduling problems, which means you need to wake up really early to take a decent shower or wait until the afternoon. No matter how long you stay, no one changes the sheets, cleans the rooms, or provides new towels without your asking. There is also no breakfast involved, although the coffee porch with a refrigerator is nice to have. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.

This was my first visit to Lily Dale (and it won't be my last...). I found "Jewel" online and booked my room. The "guest home" is a nice Victorian. Rooms are comfy and there are shared bathrooms. There is air conditioning (unlike the hotels!) which is pretty important on hot summer days in Lily Dale. The owners were very accomodating and always helpful. There is a nice enclosed porch with a coffee make and fridge.
Lily Dale is small so it is a short walk to anywhere onsite. One of the food consessions is very close by, as is the shopping.
Just a short walk to the Forrest Temple, Healing Temple, mueseum, etc.

You can spot Jewel on the Lake easily on Cottage Row- it is the one with the Tibetan prayer cloths hanging across the front of it.

The first thing visitors will notice when they enter the home is the large porch, which visitors can enjoy coffee on. There is a refrigerator and coffee making area behind the seating area, for visitors to use. Upon entering the foyer, there is a small restroom, which interestingly, is under the stairway. If you're a Catholic, you'll also find a small bottle of Holy Water above the sink - just in case!

In the upstairs of the home, there are bedrooms on the second, as well as in an attic/alcove area. A bathroom with a shower/bathtub is also located on the second floor. High speed Internet is included, but be sure to ask for a password when you check in, otherwise you won't be able to access it.

The home is within walking distance to Assembly Hall where most of the workshops are offered in the town. It is also within walking distance of the Sunflower Restaurant and Cup of Joe's coffee house. The shops in the town are also within walking distance of this home. The parking lot is also directly across from this guest house.

I only stayed at the Jewel on the Lake for one evening. It was quiet, but I don't think there were any other guests staying that night. My bed was comfortable and I was able to open my windows for ventilation in the evening. I believe there is air conditioning in this home, but it wasn't needed the evening I stayed as it was cool outdoors.

The value for the stay is good, compared to staying in a hotel. The main detraction I have with this guest home, as with some of the others in Lily Dale, is that they do not take credit cards. For this reason, bring plenty of cash as you'll be expected to pay up front for your entire stay at check-in. In addition, you'll need to keep your valuables locked up in your car during the day, as the doors to the bedrooms do not lock from the outside.
