My wife and I have just returned from a motor trip around Lake Ontario and we had the pleasure of staying in the mansion on the hill overlooking all of Little falls in New York. This home was built by a wealthy magnate in the early years of the last century. The mansion has a wonderful history as do it's owners all for you to discover.
The staff at the overlook are extremely gracious in there efforts to relate the stories that this old home has to share along with the history of the family that had it built.
Jim, todays superintendent overlooking the daily operations of the inn is a very personable character and goes out of his way to share his wealth of information about the place and it's history. He also is a great cook and his breakfasts are beyond compare.
We had a wonderful experience and enjoyed stepping back in time. We highly recommend this B&B to anyone who enjoys something truly unique.
Bruce and Judy , from Ontario.

We always stay at a B & B because the owners are friendly & informative, the rooms are comfy, and the food is outstanding. We never met the owner here; he'd hired someone to manage the place. She was very nice, but kept answering questions with, "I'll have to call the owner". The bed felt like we were sleeping in a hammock. We came in with a private bathroom; however, after dinner, we had a shared bathroom. The walls were so thin, I could hear the other people using the toilet. The breakfast was self serve plus chewy scrambled eggs. But the house itself is glorious and the Town of Little Falls is very pretty and full of history. Dinner at the Piccolo Eatery was superb, very good value. I'm glad I saw the house, but wouldn't go back.

We stayed at The Overlook in Little Falls, NY, as an affordable B&B option reasonably close to Cooperstown (home of the Baseball Hall of Fame), where rates were nearly twice as high. The Overlook is a magnificent mansion with a fascinating history, much of which is incorporated in its detailed restoration. We stayed in a spectacular corner room with a grand turret and views of the town down below. Each of the rooms is unique and furnished in elegant period pieces. The only drawback to our room, one that could be easily addressed, was the lack of any lighting near the bed to allow for reading while lying down, something I like to do before dozing off.

Room Tip: The easternmost room is shaded by the abundant tree growth outside and may be too dark for some. All...

We were on the road, and booked only as an overnight stop. Before we left, we were already making plans for a return and a longer stay. Jim, the caretaker, was amazing. He gave us a tour of the entire place as we were shown to our (Gold) room. The ambience was outstanding, and the breakfast was great. Jim seems to do everything by himself, from check in to check out, including the preparation of breakfast. A more gracious host we have never encountered.

We will be back for a longer stay, and for an opportunity to explore the community and surrounding area. Thanks, Jim, for making our short stay so memorable.

Room Tip: Gold Room has a private bath, but if one of two rooms with a shared bath is not booked, they will bl...

I would see the Overlook as a child & just looked at it in awe. So, I was VERY happy to see it opened & restored to such a beautiful inn. Our room (the balcony) was perfect. Enjoyed a cold beer from the bar and took in the view! The staff is professional and kind.
Having stayed at dozens of B&B's across the US, I found the Overlook to be a true gem to the Mohawk Valley. If i could make an suggestion, ( I always do) it would be to add higher thread count sheets, to add true luxury. We WILL be back!

Room Tip: LOVED The Balcony!

What a delightful find. Sometimes you just aren't sure of places you book online, but you can be confident that this one is spot on NICE! Quaint old house, very charming. We stayed in the Gold Room for two nights on our visit to Cooperstown. Nice easy scenic drive and definitely less expensive than the B&B's there. Jim made us a nice breakfast each morning and there was an ample selection of fruits, muffins, juices, yogurt, etc. as well. Lovely views from both our room and the porches.

If we ever had reason to be back in the area I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Overlook Mansion again.

Room Tip: Gold room has private bath.

It is like entering a time warp into all the charm, comfort and caring of a grand old mansion. We were travel weary - folks seemed to come out of the woodwork - Scotty, Jamie, Steve et al to help us to our suite. Only after showing us around and making certain we knew the location of the ever open complimentary self serve little tavern overlooking the valley. Reading material in our room included a massive antique bible. Breakfast included incredibly delicious omelets made to order by the best chef around. Their recommendations were all right on target We live in Wyoming just outside of Yellowstone but we've already decided we're coming back here. If you can, don't pass up the opportunity to stay here and enjoy the rocking chairs while sipping the beverage of your choice on the magnificent porch overlooking the hamlet below.

Room Tip: We enjoyed having the bath ensuite.
