I was able to spend a few nights at the Auberge Aquarella recently. The room was quite large and clean. I was concerned that there was no a/c in the room but with the windows open at night - I slept comfortably. The location of the hotel is very central and is approximately 10-15 minutes from the airport and 10 euros to get there by cab. There is a restuarant in the hotel and the food is quite good. There are also a few good restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. The owner, Gino, is an amazing guy and will accomodate you as best as he can. there is no beach at the hotel but the swimming pool is very nice and very refreshing. This hotel is definitely a worthwhile place to stay. I highly recommend this place!

We thought this place was wonderful, with absolutely fabulous views fover the lagoon and the mountains from our room (Room 4) and the pool. We stayed for 10 nights and couldn't have picked a better place to stay in Mauritius for peace and quiet and away from mass tourism. Gino and Veronique and their family were great. We had such fun with Gino and nothing was too much trouble. He was full of good ideas of where to go and what to see. We also enjoyed several evening meals here as well as dining out locally. The staff were lovely. The location is great for getting around the island. We used the local bus to get to a lot of places as well as walking to the beach at Blue Bay.

Overall a good experience. Rooms were nice and well equipped. Owner, Gino, was very nice and accommodating. He had lots of good advice on what to do. Breakfast simple but tasty, with nice and personal service at the table - they always came to fill up your coffee several times :)

Service a bit slack at times, we had to carry our own suitcases from reception after checking in, and towels were not always exchanged. Showers were not nice, low water pressure and hard to find a good temperature between hot as hell or freezing cold.

Would recommend spending an extra 10 Euros for the rooms with sea view - you are literally on the sea and it is wonderful listening to the waves licking the base of your house at night when you go to sleep. The view is of course also amazing, as is the view from the restaurant where you have your breakfast.

The location is excellent with several good restaurants within walking distance. Can especially recommend Vielle Rouge which is a hidden pearl just up the road with great quality and value, and Coupard D'aboard (excuse the spelling all french people!) which is by the waterfront, you recognise it by the boat outside on the terrace.

Very friendly owners. I booked via email and recieved a quick reply. A phone call later the creditcard number was delivered and room booked.

We stayed 7 days in the northern part of the island and as we where travelling with a 3 year old we wanted to be near the airport so 2 days where booked in Aquarella.

Nice facilities. We stayed in the waterfront bungalow without aircond but the fan helped and the marvellous view from the window was breathtaking. Some mosquitos bit so remember mosquitoprotection. We and our son enjoyed the pool and spa almost the entire day. Dinner in the evening smoked marlin/chicken curry/icecream with rhum (not rhum for the son though ;-) ) was very good.

We appreciate the help to arrange taxi to the airport and the taxidriver where guiding us on the way to the airport.

We hope to come back one day ... I totally agree with the other person who wrote that this feels more like what I would call the "real" Mauritius than the more touristic northern parts.

We stayed here for several days in March. The Auberge is quiet and has a nice pool. It is near the airport - for early or late-arriving flights – but not noisy. Mahebourg gives a feeling of what it is like to live in Mauritius, something not sensed at the many resorts. There are a few good restaurants within walking distance, or the owners will help you to order takeout.
