“Maintenance Required”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

The chalets are very small but they have been nicely furnished, HOWEVER there needs to be significantly more maintenance. We took 2 chalets and one smelt DISGUSTING (drain problem), the door handle was falling off the bathroom door, one window could not be opened or shut because the frame is falling to pieces, could not operate the fan as it is situated too high to reach and worst of all the water pump needs serious maintenance. It is impossible to have shower water of a reasonable temperature it is either scalding or freezing. We ate in the restaurant and the food at dinner was good. Breakfast very light. What a shame that this fabulous setting is not able to offer fabulous accommodation.

Thank you very much for your constructive comments. Since your last stay, management has been reorganized to keep a proper control on maintenance and services offered at Le Jardin de Beau Vallon. Our bungalows definitely needed some maintenance which has been done now. We apologize for your bad experience and hope to see you again in the future.

I loved this hotel, especially the restaurant! It is basically a very small concern of a few purpose built chalets around the old colonial sugar plantation house. The gardens are not so big, but full of wonderful fruits and flowers. It manages to feel like a home, rather than a hotel. We stayed in both the Indian pavilion and the normal chalets and found both to be charming. Despite their cheaper cost, the chalets are nicely decorated and cosy and clean. This may not be 4* luxury, but it's not basic either and the little touches and smiling, helpful staff make it a truly lovely and memorable place to stay. People travel especially to eat at the restaurant, which is simply great, good, tasty, simple food, wonderful romantic atmosphere and -on some nights-even a talented guitarist to play melodies while you eat. Great place! A real find.

I ate a wonderful vegetarian meal at the restaurant (I was not staying at the hotel). The food was delicately flavoured and wonderfully presented. Good service. The portions of food, however, were quite small. Complimentary appetizer was excellent. A quiet evening with only a handful of people. The hotel organised free transport for me from my nearby guesthouse.

We spent our final night here in a 3.5 week adventure around Mauritius (we stayed on each coast as well as inland, luxury as well as more basic accommo). We heard the restaurant had great food and that there was a small pool and rooms (as well as a separate pavilion), and all close to the airport - so it seemed a good fit.

We were right. We stayed in the pavilion which is a wonderful, crazily designed (Asian inspired) chalet with canopy bed, great furniture and very unique cavernous bathroom. What a special treat.

We had both lunch and dinner here and the only complaint is that we couldn't have everything off the menu. It was wonderful to have a final dip in a pool followed by a fantastic final dinner in Mauritius and a great rest, all with no stress as only minutes from the airport. If (hopefully) we return to Mauritius, we'll make a plan to stop here again.
