“Relaxing location”
Reviewed 3 October 2009

Visited here for 10 nights late September, cannot fault the location, a short drive from the airport, but not in a place that troubles you with aircraft noise, in fact it is extremely quiet and peaceful. A word of caution, most of the UK flights appear to get here early in the morning, we had endured a 12 hour flight with Air Mauritius (not for the faint hearted!). I suppose we were being over optimistic in expecting our room to be ready, but it wasn't. We were initially told to come back at 11am, we did, it still wasn't ready. Anyway after some moaning and groaning we got in around 12pm. The hotel can't really be blamed for this, check out is 11am, but our travel agent made no reference to this and the first thing we needed to do was freshen up. In fairness to the hotel there is a changing room with showers. My advice, have your swimwear and washbag close to the top of your luggage, get sorted and go find a sun lounger for a few hours sleep. By the way we didn't get a cocktail or drink offered!

We had what was termed a 'cottage', close to the beach and very nice, well equipped, very clean and no complaints, has tea and coffee making facilities with a TV, with a fair selection of films (there is not a great deal to do here in the evenings).

A few hints and tips;

1. Taxis booked at the hotel will be at least double as compared to the ones you can find nearby, so if you want to save yourself some cash, walk out of the gate, turn right and within minutes there will be a number of drivers asking you if you need a taxi, barter with them and get their price down.

2. Trips booked within the hotel are again expensive, you can find a taxi driver who will give you a tour of the island for a very reasonable price. Our driver was a really nice guy, called Monsieur Hansa, very friendly and knowledgeable about the island. There is a bit of a scam they are all involved with on the island that you need to be aware of, our driver was very up front and honest about it but I'm guessing they won't all be. Here's how it goes, the driver will take you to a 'factory' shop, or a number of. For bringing the customers into the building they get a voucher from the owner which entitles them to 2 litres or so of petrol. So be ready for this and don't feel forced to buy anything, it doesn't matter to the driver they get the voucher in any event.

3. The hotel catamaran tour is great, it's a new boat, the crew are excellent and the food is good. Another tip here, take some cash with you, we didn't think we would need any so I didn't. The reason is that whilst snorkelling you will have the opportunity to para-sail and on the island that you visit there is a small market where you can buy souvenirs.

4. Hotel prices are very expensive, we were half board, so if you want to eat at the hotel on this basis, dig deep. There is a supermarket a short walk away (London Way), not exactly a scenic walk but you can't have everything. Here you will also find a gathering of taxi drivers to barter with.

5. The hotel is marketed towards honeymoons and weddings and is as such very much a couples hotel. We enjoyed our time there, the beach is lovely and there are some fantastic views. Canoes, pedaloes, windsurfing, sailing and snorkelling all free on the beach.

6. Go to Casela Wildlife Park and do 'Walk with Lions' and the quadbiking, fantastic!!

Having been recommended this hotel as suitable for single holiday makers by the travel agent, I was very disappointed to find that it was full of people either, getting married, on honeymoon or celebrating a special anniversary. The hotel clearly concentrates on looking after these type of guests as I was not offered anything, not even water, upon my arrival even though I had been travelling all night. The other reviewers really must have rose tinted glasses and be all loved up, as I thought that the rooms were very basic and in need of re-furbishment. I have stayed in better studios in Greece.

I was constantly harrassed by either the beach boy or the breakfast waiter and felt intimidated at times. This is clearly not a suitable hotel for single women as the rooms are situated well away from the main restaurant it was dark by 6:30, and the route to the restaurant not very well lit.

The drinks were very expensive - orange juice 4 Euros plus 15% VAT.

I have travelled all over the world and this was the first holiday where I was really looking forward to be going home

On a positive note, the restaurant staff were very attentive.

relaxing, quiet, good food, charka grill bar gets booked well in advance so get in there early. If your a big drinker go all inclusive and make the most of the sparkly wine, cocktails and smirrnof vodka!!!
Weather was hot during day, cool in the shade, and in the evening it was cool so no need for air con on all night and therefore a good nights sleep.
Upgrade to a prestige cottage, we had honeymoon suite and was not impressed very small.
canapies brought out during the afternoon, staff there are all very helpfull, and very nice

Arrived at the Hotel 10mins away from the airport. Was greeted by a lovely cocktail, while we filled in our details. Was upgraded to the honeymoon suite, as we were getting married there later in the week. First three days there was a cyclone, as it is winter there at the minute. Wedding day arrive, lovely and sunny. Linda was very helpfull, helped us order our flowers and other items. Had a lovely Wedding Day, and paid extra to have our evening meal in the gazebo that we got married in. The beach Hawkers are abit annoying, but nothing to do with the hotel. The beach activitys were mostly free and good fun. Food was good, charka restaurant twas he best. Go All inclusive or it works our expensive. Taxi's outside the hotel are cheap, and will take you anywhere.

Le Preskil Beach Resort, Mahébourg, Mauritius

We decided to get married on the beach in Mauritius and could not have chosen a better venue. From the second we arrived at Le Preskil we felt at home. We were greeted by Vishal and friendly, helpful staff, who treated us like royalty for our entire 12 day stay. We were really spoilt! Upon arrival we were given warm face towels, fruit juice, and a briefing on the facilities and services, as well as a complete tour of the resort, while our luggage was taken to our room. It was immediately apparent… we were in paradise!!

Upon entering our room we were met by the most breathtaking ocean view! The room was filled with a refreshing lemongrass scent and was comfortable and well equipped. The resort’s private beach was right on our doorstep with ample sun loungers and thatches, as well as the fun beach restaurant and bar, ‘Tapas’. We received an invite to the manager’s cocktail party which was relaxed and enjoyable. Complimentary champagne, cocktails, and snacks were served. The hotel also has an African themed steakhouse as well as the main restaurant ‘Spices’ which had a different theme for dinner each evening, and also served buffet breakfasts as well as lunch. All restaurant staff were amazing, being constantly prompt and efficient! And not to mention the food… a wide variety of all kinds of delicious dishes!

The resort is a comfortable 10min from the airport. Amenities include two pools, a games room, spa, fully equipped gym, tennis courts, a kids’ centre, scooter rental, and a computer room. Other great and fun filled activities included kayaks, peddle boats, sail boats, water skiing, a glass bottom boat, and a stunning catamaran. We opted for an ‘undersea walk’, at an extra charge, which was a truly unforgettable experience. The evening catamaran cruises are a must, as well as a trip on the glass bottom boat.

Our wedding was held on the beach in a gazebo, and was more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. What impressed us most was how well and with how much ease the wedding was organized. No pressure was put on us and we could concentrate solely on enjoying the experience! Linda saw to all of the detail, which included the wedding cake, flower arrangements, champagne and everything that was required. The two musicians were great and created a relaxed, romantic, and fun atmosphere. The photographer, Fred Cusin, was very professional and took the most stunning photographs. He made us feel very much at ease and delivered the finished photos in record time. Needless to say, after seeing these photos, our friends are green with envy!

We became close to the staff and were obviously sad when we had to say our goodbyes. Thank you to all at Le Preskil for your unsurpassable hospitality! We will definitely return!!

Kindest regards,

Jacques and Monica

The hotel was of very high standard, I was a bit dubious as it is 4 star and the island has many 5 star hotels.
Couldn't fault anything, staff were great and very attentive but not intrusive, facilities were good and the room was cleaned everyday , food was good.
We upgraded to a presitige cottage which was on the beach and had excellent views.

I travelled with my family, 10 yr old boy and 13 yr old girl. They tried everyting scuba diving, water skiing , they have free taster classes. The motorised sports you have to pay for.

The only downfall is the weather was not very good for three days, August is their winter, you are charged if you lose a beach towel 25 euros, so hold on to them.
The hotel charges everything in Euros, their is a shop called london way down the road, if you are thinking of going half board

We travelled to Mauritius for our son Jacques and daughter in law Monica's wedding and stayed at Le Preskil beach resort. Upon arrival we were met by Vishal who introduced us to the hotel and it's various facilities. The airconditioned rooms, set among beautiful gardens, were comfortable, spacious and well equipped. The staff were effecient, friendly and very helpful. There was a good selection of food and beverages to choose from in the different restaurants and care was taken in the preparation and presentation thereof. The staff in the restaurants and bars were equally as effecient and friendly and made sure that every need was met. There were more than enough activities at the hotel and we felt that a seven day stay was too short to make use of what the hotel had to offer. The wedding was well organised with special attention paid to detail. Linda ensured that everyting went according to plan. Everyone went out of their way to make sure that we had a pleasant and unforgettable stay, from arrival until deparature! We had a truly wonderful time and will definately return to Le Preskil for a vacation.( The only problem to me personally is the way in which the tipping system is being operated as
it may happen that a guest could forget to put a tip in the slot at reception and the good service is not rewarded accordingly).
