“Comfortable but too far away from sights”
Reviewed 31 July 2010

Very close to airport, however far away from the main capital (Port Louis). People friendly. Be adventurous and try the local bus. Take the bus to Mahebourg from outside the hotel ( leaving approx every 30minutes from the hotel bus stop (approx 20minutes past the hour and 10 minutes to the hour and costs14-15 ruppee one way) and the the bus to Port Louis (28 ruppees one way). Takes 90-120 minutes depending as to Traffic.
Taxis for the day costs approx 4000-4500 ruppees from the hotel and approx 2500 when taken from the streets. This was for a whole day rental taking you anyway on the Island.
Mahebourg has a monday market for local goods.
Must do the catarmaran trip from the hotel to "ils aux cerf", on board all inclusive BBQ and limited drinks. Takes you to out for snorkelling and sunbathing. The hotel main restaurant's buffet food was okay but do try the "a la carte" restaurants at an additional 10 euros per person.
Get your drinks if you are not on an "all inclusive package" from the "London Supermarket" approx 15-20 minutes slow walk from the hotel. Leave the resort and turn right, its will be on the left hand side.
You have to pay for wireless internet at 2 euros per day, internet reception variable in the rooms but better in the lobby and restaurant.

Recently stayed here for 13 nights. Got a good deal with Hayes and Jarvis. Stayed in a standard lagoon room which was clean, comfortable and had a beautiful sea view. Stayed on half board, found the food to be ok, good quality and plentiful but could be a bit bland at times. Ate twice at the Charka restaurant, food was good but not the best steaks ever. Drinks are expensive, but we stocked up with rum, coke and beer from the London supermarket when we arrived. All staff were welcoming and friendly especially Linda from guest relations. We liked the location of the hotel but some may find it a bit quiet. We had a really lovely holiday here.

We spent 7 nights at Preskil and found the resort to be one of the friendliest and staff sincere resorts we have visited. For the family or just two pensioners travelling alone the facilities in our opinion are as good as they get without climbing into the world of the 5* plus or 6 star grouping.. My wife unfortunately become ill during our stay, however within 1 hour of contacting reception the local GP was in attendance and the condition attended to. Unbelievably it seemed that in a very short space of time word had travelled to what seemed like so many staff and wherever we / or I where in the resort the question seemed to come up frequently as to my wife's well being. To us this really seemed to be a sincere enquiry rather than something stage managed.
Even the restaurant staff without request there local herbal remedy for what they considered was the ailment treatment. The good news is that with there local knowledge and the GP's recommendations it all worked.
The only downside to our experience was the lack of imagination of the "chef in charge" of the dinner buffets. Budget spending cost appeared to be more important than providing a range of products which met that which was being advertised and for the period the buffet was open. Not the quality or quantity, just the range of food being offered as advertised. That all said...would we go back, the answer is most definitely yes. as the issue of buffet food selection is an easy management decision in our opinion to fix.

I went with my boyfriend all inclusive and we spent majority of our time relaxing in the day and then in the steakhouse or tapas (beach) restaurant, but went to the buffet for a few of their themed buffet nights. Service is a little slow in the bars and restaurants, but that goes with the relaxed atmosphere and was exactly what I wanted from this holiday. The bars also stock lots of well known brands of alcohol and many included in the all inclusive drinks list, which many all inclusive hotels opt for local (cheaper) brands.

The facilities are good, especially the pools; but the best is the beach there was always plenty of sun loungers on the beach and it is fantastic for snorkeling or scuba diving; nice and shallow for someone like me as a starter to build your confidence. Also the free glass bottom boat was good, although I didn't want to get off the boat to go in after seeing something that looked like a sea snake. There are other free activities including a scuba lesson in the pool, water skiing, and water sports, which we didn't try.

The spa is great and I would strongly recommend the two handed massage if you fancy something different, I regularly go for massages and loved having two people pampering and massaging me.

The room is nice, we were in the standard suits and we had a perfect view of the beach. The mini bar was refilled daily, with much needed bottles of water and well known fizzy drinks like coca-cola, sprite and orangina. The only downside for us was the bathroom was a bit damp and tired and needed a good clean, although the maids did come in and clean daily.

This definitely is a great place for a relaxing holiday and all inclusive is a must.

I also got ill on the holiday with a bladder infection, with a high temperature, which the hotel reception was great organising a local doctor within an hour of my request, and I was very surprised how cheap it was, even though it was paid through the hotel.

I would also recommend you take Euros on holiday, rather than all Mauritian Rupees as the hotel deal with Euros only, but will exchange Mauritian Rupees at reception. We didn't go out of the hotel much so didn't spend most of our Mauritian Rupees, other than a few taxi rides, medication and some souvenirs. Lots of places take both currencies. If I was going to Mauritius again I would definitely take both currencies.

I had a great time, even with being ill on antibiotics and missing out on the lovely cocktails for a week!

Very disappointing overall.
We were on half board and found all the drinks far too expensive. The Bar and Restaurant had no atmosphere. we shopped in the local super market rather than pay the hotel prices.
The buffet food was bland, boring and limited. Couldn't even have soup most evenings. Every other night was a semi buffet, with almost no choice. Staff were obsessed with clearing away plates, if you put down you knife and fork to have a chat to one another your food was whisked away before you could finish it!
Most of the staff were unfriendly and unsmiling, exception being our room cleaner and the staff on the Catamaran.

If you are already booked to go, make sure you upgrade to All Inclusive, it may be 55 Euro each per day but a Gin & Tonic (or equivalent) will set you back 9 Euros if not.

Have travelled over the past two years to Kenya, Cuba, Antigua all far superior.

First holiday we have had where we looked forward to getting home.

We have recently returned from a wonderful Honeymoon at Le Preskil from 7th to 21st June 2010. We arrived early in the morning after a long flight and were given a very friendly welcome, a cocktail and a cold flannel. We hadn’t expected our room to be ready until the afternoon so were pleasantly surprised when we were told that it should be ready by about 11. We were able to go and have breakfast straight away, our luggage was looked after by the porters until the room was ready and there were changing rooms available to freshen up.

The hotel itself is very impressive and well designed. The buildings are beautiful and the communal rooms huge and airy. They have thought of everything! We had room 176 which is a lagoon honeymoon room. It was situated close to the beach and Tapas restaurant with lovely views, far enough from the bar to be quiet but only a short walk for drinks and meals. Inside, the room was a good size with a very big and very comfortable bed. It was cleaned immaculately every day and the bed was turned down every evening while we were at dinner.

The staff were friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The level of service was always excellent, especially from the staff in Charka and Tapas and from Lindsay in the bar.

The beach is spacious and clean. The sand is quite coarse and corally but at least this means it doesn’t blow around in the wind. There were always plenty of sunbeds available although I imagine it would be busier in peak season. Each parasol had a flag you could raise for bar service, however we found this worked much better if you were close to the bar. The beach boys rarely venture to the far end of the beach so we chose to take drinks from our minibar (most are included in the all inclusive package) with us instead as we preferred the quiet end of the beach. The sea in the lagoon is very shallow for quite a long way, however when it is windy there are quite strong currents to watch out for. It was quite weedy underfoot which we found a little unpleasant. Also watch out for the sea urchins – we took rubber shoes with us. The glass bottom boat trips organised by the hotel are definitely worth doing. There was a free one which went out in the lagoon and another to Blue Bay which at 10 Euros we found to be very good value and the snorkelling was excellent.

We went on an all inclusive basis and were very glad we did as the drinks in the hotel were very expensive. We found the all inclusive option to be very good value, especially as we were able to eat in the Charka and Tapas restaurants in the evening for no extra charge. Not all drinks are included but we found there was a very good selection which are clearly indicated and the bar staff were happy to mix different cocktails for us from the all inclusive spirits. If you see Lindsay in the bar ask him to mix you his special blue cocktail – it is amazing! The buffet restaurant had a good selection of food and it was all good quality, however we much preferred to eat in the other restaurants. Charka is an amazing steakhouse serving South African steaks. The fillet was the best steak I have ever tasted! They also have a selection of other meals on their a la carte menu and everything on the menu is included in the all inclusive package. Tapas (which does not serve tapas!) specialises in seafood but there are always other options on the menu. They have a table d’hote menu with a few choices for each course and this changes every day. This menu is included in the all inclusive package but you can chose to eat from their a la carte menu (mainly lobster and king prawns) for a supplement. You can also eat in Tapas at lunch time but there is an additional charge for this.

My only criticism of the hotel is with the spa. We had a duo massage as part of our honeymoon package and I found it quite vigorous and painful. I did feel more relaxed after it but I had bruises on my back the next day which put me off using the spa again.

All in all it was a fantastic honeymoon and we would thoroughly recommend Le Preskil to anyone.

Preskil Beach Resort,
Pointe Jerome,
Mahebourg,
Mauritius

Having been home now for one week thought it was time to put pen to paper, sorry fingers to the keyboard.

What a wonderful wedding and honeymoon we experienced on the island of Mauritius on 8th June 2010. We would like to convey our best wishes and appreciation for the exemplary service we experienced during our recent stay at Le` Preskil Beach Resort.

A big thank you to allther management team and staff, every person we were involved with were very friendly, courteous and knowledgeable, especially our wedding co-ordinators, many thanks for their assistance and advice during our stay and for going the extra mile to make us relaxed and comfortable. They provided services above and beyond, attending as wedding witnesses, arranging visits, taxis etc and allowing us to download and choose our wedding photos in time for our wedding party presentation on the day after we arrived home.

Congratulations to the Food Beverage, and Management Team for ensuring excellent entertainment, a good choice of menus in all your outlets and a tasty food choice. An efficient and professional service was always available; nothing was too much trouble, and all staff were very attentive and receptive to our needs, almost as if we were the only people in the hotel.
It was great to know that the staff were communicated with for our special needs and whichever member of staff served us knew of those needs, especially when I suffered an abscess behind a tooth, soft food choices were made available during the rest of our stay. This situation was dealt with efficiently and an appointment arranged with a dentist in Curepipe.

As we are both in the service industry understand how important it is to have staff trained to a high standard and the staff certainly are, whether or not they were caterers, cleaners, gardeners, beach boys or porters. It was also great to receive folded towel animals in our room and was much appreciated.

We will always be talking about our stay and the experience and history of Mauritius and will certainly return one day possibly for our anniversary.

Thank you again for your considerate service. We will be certain to recommend your accommodation to our friends, colleagues and business associates.
