My family and I came to Mauritius for the first time but for sure will return back again. We stayed at a 3-bedroom villa at Constance Belle Mare Plage which came with a professional butler (Ashmed). The hotel is the best: excellent professional staff who enjoy helping and pampering the guests. The hotel has everything you may dream of. Yet we hired a private driver (Ajay) through the hotel. We travelled North, South, West, and East. We visited almost all popular attractions. Blue Bay Marine Park was heaven on earth. Spectacular view, great for photography (I shot over a thousand photos in one day). You won't believe your eyes.

Thanks to our driver (https://www.facebook.com/rameshar.ajay) who helped us discover this amazing place among the many other places. Thanks to Constance Belle Mare Plage and our butler (Ashmed) for recommending the attraction.

Stay at the Constance Belle Mare Plage Hotel Resort and hire Ajay to show you around. Call Ashmed whenever in doubt for an honest opinion.

Thank hyaghi

I first visited and snorkelled in Blue Bay back in 1993. It was an amazing experience with a huge variety of corals and fish, and the corals seemed to be thriving and healthy.
My next visit was in 2010 and this time I was distressed to see that most of the corals upstream towards the Shandrani Boat house had died. However, the corals, especially the plate corals nearest to the sea were still alive and impressive.
I have now just returned from another visit to Blue Bay and stayed both at the Shandrani Hotel on the southern side for 3 days and then at the Blue Lagoon on the northern side for 1 day. This gave me the opportunity to snorkel across the entire lagoon and how distressing it was. Apart from the branch corals, all the other corals are dead - the plate, flower and brain corals are just rubble with the branch corals being covered in moss and algae. Fish abundance and diversity is also down on compared to previous visits.
Like other reviewers, I thought this was due to the high number of boats and divers using the lagoon. However, boats and divers would cause mainly mechanical damage and would not wipe-out the whole coral system. Clearly something else is amiss and the water quality seems to be the obvious culprit. Excessive run-off from the sugar cane fields and possible effluent from the hotels appears to have degraded the water quality resulting in mass extinction of the coral systems. It was apparent when diving on the low tide that the fresh water overlying the denser sea water had a distinctive murky and paraffin-like appearance that severely reduced visibility.
Perhaps it is time for the Mauritian authorities to start sampling the water to try and establish the exact cause of the problem. Unfortunately, for most of the corals, it is already too late - yet another ecological disaster in the space of just 20 years!

Was a bit disappointed with the trip on the bay in a glass bottom boat. Lots and lots of brown coral with no variety. Saw much greater variety near the Le Preskil lagoon.

Nice place to snorkel and see the fish up close :) We went in a glass bottom boat but the highlight was climbing into the water.
