From the awesome views of the Catskill Mtns to the fantastic breakfasts the whole weekend was just fabulous. It's hard to believe that this beautiful mountain region is only a couple of hours drive from NYC. What really got me was that even though we were staying in an antique filled historic B&B they still provided us with modern stuff. We had a cool flat screen TV in our room and WiFi access all over the place. I was able to sit out on the front verandah overlooking the mountains, check my email and surf the net. The owners/hosts were really nice and made us feel right at home. And Margaretville was a very cute village with neat lttle stores and decent restaurants. With all this we will definitely be back to recharge our batteries again soon.

This B&B is really lovely. The breakfasts were amazing. The owners are very sweet and friendly. The place is clearly very well run. The rooms are a good size and nicely decorated. We'll definitely be back.

We had a very quiet and relaxing stay at the Margaretville Mountain Inn. The furnishings were cozy, we always had a fresh supply of tea, and the proprietors Peter & Carole are very helpful. It's exactly what we wanted in escaping from the chaos of NYC. The best part had to be the breakfasts! Each morning we were served fresh baked goods such as cranberry scones and blueberry coffee cake, farm-fresh eggs, and more. We will definitely be returning.

We booked the B&B after visiting their website and glad we did. We've never stayed at a B&B before and my wife was a little worried. But the place was perfect. Just the right get away from the city hustle. Our room was just like the photos and the breakfasts were everything promised. We especially loved the Belgium waffles. The victorian antiques and the general atmosphere of the place was warm and inviting. We will definitely be make the Margaretville B&B a regular get away!

Upon booking, we were told that there is a hot tub on site and we looked forward to relaxing for the weekend. We were first surprised by the children that stayed there, this is the first bed and breakfast we know of that invites children. We heard someone snoring from the room next to/above our room! The radiator was directly next to the bed, I was lucky not to burn my leg sleeping so close to it. The innkeeper recommended an Italian place on Main Street and said the chef is from Milan. We think he (i) has never been to the restaurant himself and (ii) he meant Milan, Ohio when he was referring to the chef. The food was horrendous to say the least. Enough said, we shall never return to the inn in the future. And, to top it off, there was not a single hot tub in the deserted barn.

The pictures on the B&B's website are a lot nicer than the actual place. Most of the rooms are very small and our room was just about the size of the king size bed that was in it. Doesn't give you much wiggle room. Also, it seems that they just put up a wall to add the very narrow bathroom. The water from the shower kept leeking out onto the floor even with the shower door tightly closed. Moreover, the room should have been called the ladybug room b/c there were so many of them all over the room. The cleaning lady had said that the ladybugs were brought into the region to help the farmers but now they can't get rid of them. The ladybugs are none offensive, if you don't mind bugs, but there's a lot of them so you can't help stepping on them and their little smushed bodies are kind of all over the place.

Normally, you would expect good home cooking from a B&B, especially, when the website says the hostess' "outstanding culinary talents have earned high praise for her gourmet breakfasts". Aside from the fact that the hostess was never visible, her husband the host would say every morning "you have your choice of eggs anyway you want it or buckwheat pancakes or french toast." We were there for three nights and he said the exact same thing every morning. There's only so many ways a person can have eggs. Also, if he asks you if you want bacon, say no. I don't know how many days old it was but it surely was not cooked that morning.

Overall, I think that the hosts of this bed and breakfast are tired of the business as they have been doing it for 15 or some years and they are just going through the motions. From the old, worn out and sometimes not so clean decor to the host's very mechanical demeanor, this bed and breakfast should probably be retired.

We would not return and the only reason that we stayed the whole three nights was b/c the agreement stipulated that if we left early we would still be charged for the room.
