“Bad Business”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2011

I tried to book a room through the owner. After speaking with him a few times and learning that he had rooms available for the upcoming weekend, he would not rent out a room for just one night. BAD BUSINESS!

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2009

I travel once a year from Arizona to the North Fork of eastern Long Island, N.Y. to visit friends/family and to visit the place where I grew up. Although I usually stay in Greenport, this year, for nostalgic reasons, I decided to try the Mattituck Motel. I went in mid-October, when the fall color is beautiful, the beaches are deserted, and the weather is still moderate (high 60s, low 70s).

The Mattituck Motel is a 19-unit establishment, built in the old-fashioned motel style of the 50s and 60s, and located on a nice quiet residential street (Bay Ave.) within easy walking distance of both shops and restaurants on Route 25 and also within a block of a beautiful town beach. Because I had no car during my stay, I found the location quite convenient; it was no more than a 10-minute walk to anything I needed, and only an easy 15-minute walk to the LIRR train station. The S92 Suffolk County transit bus is also nearby on Route 25, which made it convenient to get into Greenport or to visit the nearby wineries.

I booked a basic room with kitchenette, though there are larger one and two bedroom units available. The décor was definitely retro ‘50s and ‘60s, but the room was large and airy, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well-equipped (full-size frig, gas stovetop, and full-size microwave, a good selection of dishes and cooking utensils), and the room and bathroom were immaculately clean! There is a barbecue and picnic area available to guests as well.

Kerry, the owner, is friendly and offered to drive me into town or to the train station if needed, but the weather and the walk were so pleasant I didn’t need a ride. The town beach is a short one-block walk away down Bay Ave., and is beautiful, clean, and convenient.

This is a “no-frills” establishment, but is comfortable, quiet, and a very pleasant place to stay – it will bring you back to the 1960s in décor and ambience. The rooms are reasonably priced, but must be paid for in cash – no credit cards accepted.

I would definitely return to this motel, and if I lived closer to the NYC area, this place would be a frequent weekend getaway for me in the fall, winter, and spring seasons when the tourists are not around.
