We booked a last min.girls trip, and were supposed to stay at a different hotel, we booked it an hour before leaving, and within the hour she called back and said there was a plumbing issue with the room we booked, which happened to be the last room available, she gave us the number to The Mattituck Motel, we didnt look it up, we just agreed and called to see if they had available rooms. They did, we booked, and drove out. My friend called Kerry, the man who I'm assuming owns the hotel, en route because he was going to give us better directions to avoid the Hamptons/montauk traffic nightmare. He was super friendly, and very helpful. I haven't been to mattituck in years, we usually by pass it to go to the wineries, so I wasnt sure what kind of hotel we'd be staying at. We got there before sunset, and pulled into the Bates Motel. For real, it was Bates-y, straight out of the original movie. The woman inside was so nice, and helpful, she recommended places for us to eat, and go out for the evening & She gave us a cottage, instead of just putting us in a regular room.
We had dinner, drinks, and were back in the hotel before midnight. I pushed a chair in front of the door so we wouldnt get murdered, and checked behind mirrors and paintings for peep holes. In the morning the sun was out, but it was cold, we wanted to spend the day at the wineries, and Kerry was gracious enough to offer us a discount if we stayed a second night. We agreed, and spent our day out and about. Someone refreshed our towels and cleaned up a bit while we were out, even though we didnt request it. There was no one in the main office all day, but a cell number was taped to the door, we called to arrange payment for the second night, they said no worries theyll charge us tomorrow when we leave....
Sunday we borrowed beach chairs from the hotel and spent the whole day at the beach, we never got a call or were forced into a normal check out time. It was great, we checked out at 5, finally got to meet Kerry in person, he gave us great food options for dinner, and even hand drew a map for us.
I've stayed in top of line resorts, high end hotels, b&b's, etc. was this place a palace, hell no, but we had the BEST time, the staff was great, amazing customer service, lax attitude allowed us to enjoy ourselves. It was semi-adventurous sleeping with one eye open. Plus there was a nice quiet private beach up the block. you cant beat the price, the room was well worn, but clean. There's even a "working blood hound" on the premise, who checks for bed bugs. I will absolutely skip the high priced places out there from now on. We are already planning our next weekend trip
