Diner has been in Middletown for as long as I can remember. The food is always good as is the prices. You can't go wrong eating here!

We went three times. Once for breakfast and the home fries and hash were burnt and cold! Now that's hard to do. We went back for the prime rib dinner and it was so salty that we could not eat it. When we asked what happened they said we don't use salt. Really?? How about sorry let me take care of that for you. Last we went back because we heard it was better. We ordered the prime rib again and sat there for almost an hour and never even got our food. I asked what the problem was and they said it was a shift change in the kitchen. We waited another 15 minutes and left. Never again! Take the trip across town to the 211 side of town and there's a good diner there.

Clean, affordable, friendly staff, excellent food--this diner has been there since I was a kid growing up in Middletown and is still the most reliable place I know for an unpretentious meal. Good burgers, excellent fries, fresh salads, homemade pies.

The Colonial is the sort of place when solidly-built guys,in middle age and beyond, gather around large tables to share breakfast and debate the Yankees, and young families jam into booths with high chairs at the end. On whole, a very comfortable place.

We tried breakfast and the food was about what you'd expect: a large corn muffin, grilled. Crispy bacon and well-cooked eggs. A stack of whole wheat toast. And a comfortable booth.

There were three glitches: (1) the cheese in the ham and cheese omelet was a sort of unappetizing slab of American. (2) the home fries were dry and flavorless. (3) the coffee was bad. Generally weak and slightly bitter, though hot.

On whole, a road food breakfast in a nice townie diner. We'd consider going back, except that the coffee was sort of a deal-breaker for us.
