We stayed in the North Cottage. We brought our dog.
Pros
We brought our dog
Amazing view of river and grounds
Beautiful farm with peacocks, llamas, donkeys, sheep
Afternoon tea with yummy homemade cake
Great fresh breakfasts
Interesting and beautiful walks on the grounds
Beautiful pool and sauna with bright comfortable pool lounge area
Great massage

Cons
Our room/house was not ready when we arrived and we waited 1.5 hours for it!! Staff member was not impolite but was not particularly welcoming either, nor apologetic. In general the place could use more warmth!

There was construction happening on the grounds

Sheets weren't great. Not terrible but not super-luxurious as expected.

Staff at the spa was really hot and cold. Some very welcoming and warm, some totally snotty!
The place could use more kindness and warmth.

We ate at the Henry one night. Our food was not great, really over salty. Had burger, salad, and mussels. We expected it to be knockout, wasn't. We still had a nice time.

Where do I begin? With breakfast of course! The ladies who prepare this meal are five star chefs in their own right. The food was amazing and they were very gracious in sending us home with the remains of an awesome chocolate cake. Henry's was disappointing both nights we ate there. The pricing and the portion size did not justify NYC pricing. Our room was spacious and clean and quiet. We both got the biggest kick out of the multi shower heads at the spa. Now my wife wants one of her own! Wish the snow had melted more, but it didn't stop us from roving the beautiful grounds and getting some much needed rest. Go see the Llamas!

Room Tip: If you can afford it, pick one of the cottages. Amazing views and amenities.

Just got back from a two-night stay at Buttermilk Falls. We booked Pony's Pad--it's a fantastic two-floor cottage with a spiral staircase and a wood-burning fireplace. It was beautiful and comfortable, a gorgeous, relaxing space for a special trip. We stayed in front of the fireplace as much as possible.

The breakfast--the reviews are right, it's simply amazing. Fresh baked bagels, pastries and fruit were on the buffet. The hot dishes were outstanding--especially the blueberry granola pancakes. Tea time was lovely too.

We had spa treatments, and they were really good. I got a great hot stone massage, and it was really a treat to spend time in the pool, sauna and steam room after the treatment. The pool room is a special, relaxing place (would be great if they reminded folks that it's supposed to be a quiet space, some folks were a little chatty).

Finally, we took a couple (very muddy!) treks back to visit the animals. They have a gorgeous bunch of llamas and chickens and peacocks and the cutest little donkey I've ever seen. Visiting with the animals was a huge highlight of the trip.

We definitely will be back when the weather is warmer to take full advantage of the property.

Just returned from our stay at Buttermilk Falls Inn, where we took advantage of the Winter Warmer Package (third night free when booking two).

The breakfast was incredible - a beautiful spread every morning of tasty treats, with three specials to order from. The Southwest Plate with hash brown casserole might be the best thing I've ever eaten! The teatime spread from 3-5 is equally impressive, a nice mix of delicious savory and sweet treats.

Because the Inn's food was so good, we expected the restaurant to be similar. However, our restaurant experience was mediocre. Our table was 30 minutes late despite making a reservation months in advance, service was slow, and food was unimpressive. We ate at The Artist's Palate in Poughkeepsie another night and recommend getting out if possible to try some other dining options.

I enjoyed my spa treatment and the pool was relaxing, except for the one couple who didn't seem to see the sign saying that it was a quiet area.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and are already trying to figure out if / when we can go back. It was a great way to spend 3 days together before our lives are forever changed by a tiny human. The only improvement I could suggest (other than the restaurant) would be to potentially install a door between the hallway and the living room - we spent a lot of our time reading by the downstairs fire and you overhear everything while sitting there - every small problem the front desk is dealing with and trying to fix, the same speech each time people check in, and the sound of Wrecking Ball and other music coming from the kitchen.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Juniper suite, which was lovely - I mistakenly thought it had a wood burning firepl...

My husband and I have stayed in a few B&Bs before, but Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa wins best breakfast, hands down. The spread is amazing! They even have gluten-free English muffins. The best was definitely the cook-to-order hotcakes and egg dishes. Hotcakes were big and fluffy. The omelet and frittata... seriously never had better before.. don't know what the secret is besides that they use eggs from their farm and fresh vegetables. I will go back to this place just for their egg dishes. We spent one night here and had dinner at Henry's, the restaurant on site. Although the food was okay, I much prefer the Inn's breakfast. Also, dinner service was spotty and we had to wait long periods of time for our food to arrive.

As for the room, we stayed in a spacious guest house called Pony's Pad. Basically it's a two-story (spiral staircase) cottage with a nice living area (w/sofa bed), fireplace, and kitchen on the main floor and then a beautiful bedroom with wide windows all across one wall and a skylight on the second floor. Also on the second floor is a two-sink bathroom with a washer/dryer and a separate, HUGE shower room that is seriously crazy. The wrap-around deck on the main floor is also pretty nice. I wish we spent more than one night here. Wifi was very spotty though. Some might not care, some might--just be aware! Wifi worked in the breakfast area and the main Inn, but we only got wifi in the room if we stood by the entrance area.

I didn't try any of the spa treatments but did take a dip in the pool and stuck my head in the sauna to check it out. It was clean, but very small. The areas around the Inn are gorgeous. We experienced a light flurry of snow when there and it really was beautiful. There are also some animals you can check out in the barn area--chicken, duck, llamas, etc.

We had a great weekend at Buttermilk. Even in the dead of winter, the grounds are beautiful, and the scenery and views of the Hudson River are stunning. We loved seeing the farm animals. Our room, the Rooks Nest, was comfortable, well-appointed, and pet-friendly. It was overall a lovely, relaxing weekend. Our one issue with this place was that in a few instances, they were not set up to accommodate all of their guests in the same way. For instance, there were not enough seats in the breakfast room, and the spa ran out of lockers and comfortable seats around the pool. This would be fine at a lower price point but not at rates they are charging .
We agree with a prior reviewer- a guide to the room/grounds would have been helpful.
We would come back, but they could definitely work on a few details of their service.

My sister and I just returned from a one night getaway at the very charming Buttermilk Falls Inn. Although most B & B's are charming, Buttermilk Falls is actually more like a small resort, only more intimate. The staff was, for the most part, welcoming and friendly. Our room, Cottage Rose , had a most comfortable king size bed, jetted tub, and fireplace, with a lovely view of the frozen Hudson river in the distance. We enjoyed sitting in the living room by the wood burning hearth, and learning the interesting history of the property. There is a historic, small cemetery on the estate, which is the family plot of the original owners of the home, and dates back to the 1700's. This increased the charm and interest for me. We had a most delicious brunch at Henry's, where we were given discount cards for our spa visit. The massages were very good, and were 60 minutes instead of the usual 50. Because it was so cold, we did not feel like taking advantage of the nice little indoor pool that is adjacent to the spa, but it is really and wonderful and unusual amenity for a B & B. After our spa treatments, we had tea and a most delicious cupcake in the beautiful breakfast room. This room has French doors and overlooks the lovely property and the river. The jetted tub was a nice , relaxing treat after tea. We then walked across the path to Henry's for dinner. It was most convenient to have this cozy restaurant on the property, and not have to drive in the snow in the dark. Dinner was very good. It was quiet and restful all night in our room on the second floor, and we awoke to the sun rise over the Hudson in the distance. Breakfast was fantastic, with three hot entrees to choose from, as well as the usual continental buffet. We then had fun walking around the lovely property in the snow. We saw alpacas and donkeys eating their breakfast, and some chickens peeked at us from the window of their little chicken house. If desired, guests can use snow shoes to traverse the snowier parts of the property and visit the falls. We concluded that we felt immensely cheered up and more relaxed, even after just one night at this charming inn. We will come again during another season, and even bring our husbands this time.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor seem quieter, and have a better view.
