“We love camping here!”

Hither Hills State Park

We have made this our family tradition each year and enjoyed our 13th year this past July. You are literally on the ocean with only the dunes between you and your campsite. This is a very family kid friendly campground with some activities such as arts and crafts, softball, movies outside at dusk.
Nearby are many hiking and bicycle trails for exploring. In town, you will find many places to eat and shop. We love John's Drive In for the best Ice cream! Puff and putt is lots of fun too! Of course, no trip to Hither Hills is complete without a drive to the Montauk Lighthouse! Going here forces us to slow down, relax and have fun as a family!

I have been going to Hither Hills ever since I can remember, I either go camping with the family or stay at our beach house. When ever my family and I go, we bring our bikes, they are essential if you/your kids want a fast easy way to get around because in the park there are only one way streets. There is two baseball fields there, a playground, a general store, a rec center open only certain days of the week (good for kids, there is also registration for sandcastle contests, my group almost always wins), there are bathrooms located all over the park (east side, west side, and then right above the main entrance for the beach{the ones above the beach are the nicest}), there is also a shop located next to the main bathrooms (the ones right above the beach), there is a laundry-mat located on the west side, there and of course a beach (there are life guards at the beach they usually go off duty a little before sunset). When you go to Hither Hills you have an option of camping in a tent or a camper, personally I think the tent is more fun (me and my family always have fun and we have never used a camper). The beach is nice, there is a volleyball court, nice waves (usually excellent for skim boarding, surfing, and boogie(body) boarding), the water is usually nice and cool (refreshing) also great for swimming. The movies they have at the general store, are mostly family movies (such as disney and nick movies). If you want to go camping out in montauk go in Hither Hills state park!

This is the site my family uses to book our campsite: [-]

Hither Hills is all about the beach. No electic and no water to your site. It is still worth it. Organized activities from include, movies, softball, square danceand crafts every day. You are a stone's throw to the beach and when you want to get away from the beach town isn't very far. Their is a convience store for the essentials. Plan ahead things are pricey. Bring your bikes great trails near by and great tot get to and from the beach. Trailers are a must. The showers are OK can be cold but they are refreshing after the sun and salt. These are the best life guards to be found! You can bring boogie bords. It is tough to book this in the summer. Within 2 seconds all sites are booked. You can usual get a first come cancellation if you arrive early in the AM. The fall is a great time to visit too! The wavecrest is right next door with in walking distance for non camping friends and a way to include everyone. We go evey year and love it!
