This restaurant is far too good to limit the description to a sushi bar. While they do have superb sushi and sushimi, it is the rest of their extensive and unusual fusion menu that make them absolutely the best.
Starting with the house made fried gyoza (dumplings) and spare ribs and on to their choices of wonderful lo mein with portions too large to finish, their product, flavors, textures et all are wonderful. Their fish dishes are always the freshest and their meats are fresh and well cooked.
The service is really great with a young, energetic and attentive wait staff. We have sampled the menu on several occasions as have our sons and their families who live in the area and all of us have yet to be disappointed. Its worth our trip from Rockland County across the river just to have the experience.

My husband and i have bee to Oishii numerous times. NEVER have we had any problems. Food is excellent, service prompt and courteous. A bit pricey, but the menu is well worth it.

Thank Daniel S

Whenever we drop in, there is always a table and service is slow but accurate. The fish is fresh and the cooked dishes tasty. The best part is the special rolls that are at NY prices but six large pieces for each. Try the volcano roll.

That is the translation of Oishi, the Asian Fusion restaurant that took over the space of another long-standing Mt. Kisco Japanese restaurant a couple of years ago. As residents of the town and sashimi lovers, we were regulars at the former restaurant, which served "pure" Japanese food and even had a few tatami rooms, which were very popular with local families. So we were quite surprised to see the old place leave and wondered if we'd like the replacement as well. Oishi is following the trend all over Westchester, which is to "go fusion." They do have an extensive menu of Japanese dishes, with a long list of popular sushi and sashimi dishes, along with many, many hand rolls.
They have completely redecorated the place and removed the tatami rooms :( But they have also smartened up the decor, added a sophisticated cocktail list to augment the usual Japanese sakes and beers, and added many Chinese and Thai dishes to the menu. There is also an assortment of desserts. We tend to stick to the traditional dishes, but friends recently ordered a hot duck dish and a seafood combination, also hot, which were beautifully served, with generous portions and absolutely delicious. Definitely worth a try if you're not a "raw fish" aficionado.
I note complaints here about poor or indifferent service and language barriers among the wait staff. We eat at Oishi quite frequently and I have to say we have never encountered these problems. On the contrary, we had dinner last night (admittedly, a Wednesday, so quieter than a weekend), and the service was excellent. We were greeted promptly and smilingly, the waiter brought everything in a timely fashion, and even gave us a discount on our check BEFORE we handed him the little coupon we had, as he had observed my husband take it out of his pocket before we asked for the check. Attention to detail.
Yes, the restaurant is in an "unfashionable" part of Mt. Kisco, in a small commercial space on Rte. 117 next to a Dunkin' Donuts, but so what? Inside it is quiet, well-appointed and, most important, the food is terrific. (Try the lychee martini.)
