“A Little bit of Heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2014

Well, its hard to review an area that you have decided to make your home. I started rock climbing here in 1971... just at the end of the Vulgarian era. I even had a copy of last Vulgarian Digest!

This area has endless opportunities for recreation and culture. As a college town we enjoy "Piano Summer" concert series, plays, art, craft fairs, and endless yard sales with some really good finds! A wood stove... chef knives... etc! Just a stones throw from the CIA (not that governmental agency), we enjoy excellent food throughout the entire Hudson Valley. It seems that none of the graduates want to leave the area so the whole valley has excellent surprise hidden culinary gems! (The Main Course, the Would, A Tavola, The Huguenot, Crave, and many many more!) The Mark Gruber Art gallery even sells Jacques Torres Chocolate... The only place in the area that you can get them!

Of course this area is a sportsman's/sportswoman's paradise. There is rock climbing, ice climbing, cross country skiing on the preserve and nearby trails, snow shoeing, biking, tons of Kayaking, berry picking, sky diving, swimming (with clothes and without) and lots of hiking.

I certainly recommend this area to visit. Or should I say... stay away so the traffic doesn't get any worse!

“Labyrinth/Lemon Squeeze Hike makes the visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

The best hike in this park to me is the Labyrinth/Lemon Squeeze - it is not so difficult that you need special training or gear, but challenging enough that you will be physically tired and mentally rewarded at the end of it. The trail starts on the lakeside trail opposite the house; there is a small sign marking the beginning of Labyrinth. You will navigate through tiny cracks, leap-needed gaps, and strategically placed ladders to navigate your way up the side of the mountain. The rocky path is clearly marked with red arrows and takes you to your final challenge, a vertical climb of some 150 feet up a tiny crevice (try to bring a slim backpack or nothing at all as it will make it easier to fit through); get through that and you will be rewarded with magnificent Cliffside views of the lake, forest, and towns in the distance. A short few steps later takes you to the lighthouse atop the mountain (though it is currently under construction).

Make sure you are physically fit to get through this hour-long adventure, go and enjoy!

(Entry fee is $27/person for day pass to the grounds; plan to go around 4PM in the afternoon if you want to avoid any crowds on this trail)
