“We wanted to move in!”
Reviewed 22 January 2013

Spent 2 nights here last weekend for our 32nd Anniversary. Patty & Sean are such gracious hosts. Warm, friendly & hospitable...but never in the way .. This was our first B & B experience.. we could not have asked for a better way to start! The house was so lovely.. tons of natural light- gorgeous wide plank floors.. the attention to detail everywhere you went showed the pride our hosts take in their home. We stayed in the Hunter Room on the first floor.. it was so welcoming and comfortable.. and SPOTLESS . IMMACULATE ( the whole house ) - the bathroom was so clean it looked like we were the first people ever to use it!! The gas casting stove kept us cozy... the little decorative touches.. they really thought of everything.. Now let's talk about the breakfasts.. Patty's cooking was so creative, delicious & satisfying..and eating in the lovely dining room in front of the huge fireplace while Sean stoked the fire was a special touch.. We did not need to eat until dinner, but yet the meals were light.. we did not feel stuffed - just full & happy!!

It's a small and intimate place, and we can't wait to return in the summer so that we can enjoy the grounds.( and to check out the other rooms! ). We love the Hudson Valley area and as my husband said.. why try anywhere else? we will just stay here!

Can't speak highly enough of this place - It's a must go to!!

Charming and comfy. The house itself is so beautiful and has such character. Loved the wood fireplaces!! The hosts struck just the right balance between engaging us and letting us just have the run of the place to ourselves. We were also looking at colleges for our daughter and Sean just happened to have been in the same field she aspires to and was very helpful in giving her advice! Wish we could have stayed longer :)

Warmth, hospitality, impeccable taste and the human touch: this embodies the MappleStone Inn. What a gracious B&B!

It's not just the generous scale of the quarters, but attention to every little detail - from the hands of proprietors Patty and Sean - a quality rarely observed these days. They are welcoming hosts, yet discrete, staying behind the scenes so one can really enjoy the experience of this beautiful property without any obligation to interact. Because the rooms are quite separate from each other, this is the ultimate in B&B privacy.

The consistency of the thoughtfulness demonstrated in all the three rooms (we peeked at the other two the morning we left) is amazing. All the curtains were lovely (beautifully made my Patty), adding to the atmosphere, and appropriate choices of furniture to go with the varied woods of the floors made each room unique in feel. Much care had been taken in designing everything to promote comfort and privacy. In the morning (see the photos), we took a step back in time, indulging in a hearty gourmet breakfast at a beautiful long table, with a crackling fire in the original walk-in fireplace behind.

All of it certainly met our expectations, and more. We felt so lucky to have found The MappleStone, and only hope one of the rooms will be waiting for us another time.

Room Tip: The Hunter Room faced the barn and back part of the property. Because it is on the ground floor, may...

The title says it all. The setting is gorgeous, the room (Hunter Room) was cozy, the breakfast incredible and filling, and the hosts, Sean and Patty, are one of a kind wonderful. They treated us like old friends and made us comfortable at once. I wish we were going back to New Paltz soon just so we could stay there again. They were the icing on the cake of a beautiful wedding weekend. Thanks, Sean and Patty!

I have to echo many of the other positive reviews on the MapleStone. My wife and I recently spent the weekend, and I have to rate it an all around excellent experience. And like other reviewers we have stayed at many B&B's around the US and around the world, and this place rates up there with some of the best. It's obvious that Sean and Patty have put a lot of effort and care into building a great experience for their guests...from the beautiful grounds to the tastefully appointed rooms to the great breakfasts, they pull it all off extremely well. It helps that they are genuinely nice people...and seem to have mastered the fine art of being extremely friendly and helpful, yet are in no way overbearing. The New Paltz area is one of the gems of the Northeast, and this place is a real gem in that gem. Thanks so much Sean and Patty!
