“Stunning Hotel and Spa!”
Reviewed 9 June 2012

We took a last minute anniversary trip here, since it was a simple 2 hour drive. It certainly was worth the effort with just a couple of questions. The facility and location are simply beautiful. The hotel truly has a grand feeling of traveling back in time. The buildings and grounds are easily the highlight of the experience along with the spa. The price is very high, but, in retrospect, I would have chosen a less expensive room, simply because you are not there much. We only stayed one night, but arrived early in the morning, checked our luggage, did a fitness class, played the 9 hole golf course (complementary except $10 for the cart during the week), had a light lunch and had one of the best massages we have ever had! This also allowed us to enjoy the spa facilities, including whirlpool for the afternoon.
Dinner brought some questions. There was a group meeting there during our stay and apparently they booked the main dining room. It didn't seem like that large a group, so the rest of the guests were relegated to the secondary dining room. (not nearly as nice). Did sort of put a damper on our anniversary dinner. Also, they require a jacket for men and for that kind of expectation, the service was only fair at best. Our waiter forgot items and the food was fairly slow and, while good, wasn't great. It seems as if the private party could have used the second dining room instead of the rest of the guests. They missed the mark slightly with dinner, but scored well on both breakfast and lunch. They were both buffets, but the staff seemed more comfortable with that. Both were excellent! Desserts at lunch were amazing, especially considering it was a buffet.
We found all the service, except as noted above for dinner, was superior. The front desk, guest services, parking attendants and spa and fitness center staff were quite friendly and helpful.
Overall, one of the best stays we have had. My suggestion would be book a less expensive room, arrive early, pack as much in as possible and soak in the surroundings. Quite a place!

This is a truly remarkable facility and location. If I hadn't known it was only an hour from my home in the NYC suburbs, I could have easily mistaken its sprawling stone and wood appearance for an Alpine retreat. It puts the "grand" in "grand hotel." Although our room was "cozy," it appeared newly remodeled. It was sparkling clean, nicely appointed, with a comfortable bed and a terrace overlooking the mountains (great for watching the sunset) - and no TV.

Meals, which are included in the price (this makes the seemingly high price quite reasonable) are sumptuous and delicious. Because of construction, some of the dining room choices were not available and all the guests took their meals in the single dining room that was open, but this was not a problem. There's also a beautiful indoor pool and spa.

Their are frequent "theme" weekends throughout the year that focus on things such as music, foods, seasons, and so on.

There's a no-tipping policy, but 12% is added to all charges to cover tips.

The "wow factor" is the spectacular grounds, with a lake for swimming and boating and a variety of hiking paths that offer breathtaking views. Our brief stay did not allow us the time to avail ourselves of the many other activities on the premises (tennis, horseback riding, etc.) and we look forward to returning in the near future.

Room Tip: If you are two people in one bed, be sure to ask for a Queen or larger. We had a double and this ma...

This is one of my favorite places to visit in the world. We call it Shangrala because it is so captivating .Everything about the Mohonk Mt House is very special. The Smiley Brothers constructed this victorian style hotel in the late 1800s. It is built into the cliffs with part of the lake running under it .You will see trout swimming in the lake, with fish food available, if you would like to feed them. The food served in the restaurant is gourmet. There is a hotel gift shop, cliffs to climb, beautiful gardens to view , and golfing, so you will never get bored. I never want to leave the mountain when it is time to return home.

You want to get away from the 'hustle and bustle' of work, the city, traffic, TV? Then go to this quiet/peaceful hotel in the mountains. You are greeted at the main gate with a smile and directed to a awe inspiring and eclectic hotel. The service from the valet to the waitors, the rooms, amentities, and especially the food are first class. My wife and I have been coming every year at different seasons for the past 15+ years. We enjoy the library, hikes, pool..... If you can't relax here, then you can't relax anywhere.

This place is so great - relaxing, beautiful and charming.

And the people don't disappoint either. The waiters, the front desk attendants, the bellman, all are knowledgable and eager to please.

I can't recommend this place enough! My wife and I brought our two small children here for three days, and loved every minute of it.

We just came back from a four day, three night stay at the Mohonk. We can not say enough about this property. The staff is wonderful, the grounds are immaculate, the food is great and the spa is to die for!

We were there for our 25th anniversary. We had never stayed over before, but had been a day guest.

It is one of the most special places we have ever been.

The hiking trails were a great opportunity to see the grounds and the views from the Skytop were spectacular!

There was a some construction during the day, which didn't allow us to sit on the deck with rocking chairs for extended periods of time, but there was enough to see and do, that it didn't take away from the experience.

Will be coming back!

Room Tip: You can't go wrong with either a lake or mountain view.....higher floor, the better! If you are...

The grounds are gorgeous, the staff were friendly, and the food is fine. The dining room is lovely, but the service has a cafeteria-like feeling that I suppose is unavoidable when they crank through so many people. I think some rooms might be really nice, but mine had an old, stained carpet and saggy bed that minimized the charm of creeky floors and old wood trim. Still, it was better than a tent.

The problem is it's priced like an amazing resort, but actually it's just a super nice camp ground with a stack of private rooms instead of tent sites.

For beautiful grounds, friendly people, good food in a cafeteria setting, and a private but not luxurious room, I can take an R&R retreat at the Omega Institute, where there aren't any pretensions.
