“Group of Couples Getaway”
Reviewed 5 November 2013

This was a one night trip for a group of couples for a quick getaway.
Location--Beautiful. In the middle of the beautiful mountains in upstate NY. The hotel itself is like no other and so unbelievably charming. You will definitely feel transformed when you arrive. Not like a W or Hilton, but more like a charming Inn (a big one), on a picturesque lake, mountanside. And less then 2 hours from NYC.
Grounds- Amazing hiking and rock climbing that is a must for everyone. You must do the lemon squeeze. But be careful! It is a climb, you should be in somewhat decent shape and have some agility. There are no guides to take you or help along the climb (at least that I noticed).
Rooms- Rooms are basic, clean, and charming. Since the hotel is old, the walls are paper thin, and you will hear everything around you. That is one of the major downsides. Just be sure not to get a room near a heavy trafficked area. But the reality is without TVs you probably wont find yourself staying in the room much. Otherwise, they were spacious and clean.
Food- We did the brunch, lunch and dinner. The brunch and lunch were absolutely fantastic. The dinner not so great. Seems like the ones who enjoyed the dinner the most were the ones who ordered steaks. Everything else was just ok.
Overall--
If you are looking for a quick getaway to a low-key, beautiful and charming hotel with lots of hiking, biking and other outdoor things to do...you cant go wrong. IF you are looking for a place to just sit all day, party all night....NOT the place.
PS--SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT

I can only say...fabulous!! Food was wonderful. Service great. We hiked at least 8-9 hours a day & didn't even come close to doing all that is available. We stayed for 5 days, pricey but very well worth it. Looking forward to our next occasion to go again.

Went for breakfast buffet and a walk around the Mohonk Mountain House trails. Less than a two hour drive from nyc. Got a great view of the mountains and the fall. Went apple picking nearby afterwards. Loved it!

This resort has been a favorite of my family's for generations, and for decades. If you want to transport yourself back in time, and to a place of great natural beauty, this is the joint. Despite plenty of modernization, the resort still hearkens back to another, grand era. There is no mistaking the presence of the past in the present. Gracious dining, lush grounds and wild acreage ripe for exploring make this a magical retreat for the nature lover and one who appreciates the finer things of times gone by.

Staff were all very engaging and helpful. Our room was small but adequately appointed. Unfortunately where it was located was horrible as it was in the hallway leading to the main dining hall. Vey early in the am 5:45 I was awakened by the clanking of dishes for 45 min the by 8:00 am the kids were running up and down the hall to breakfast. Buffet fair + enough choice but cold. The fine dining was wonderful. As we sat overlooking the beautiful mountains on our balcony bus loads of an ethnic variety arrived only to have juice and cookies under our balcony speaking very loudly and not moving on then their busses idled for 45 min. Would not return for the money as we spent over 1200 for 2 nights! And never even slept well.

Mohonk Mountain house is a true treasure. The beauty of the grounds is incredible. The hiking options are outstanding, the views are breathtaking.
Sure there are lots of people enjoying the same beauty with you, the Tower trails are crowded but if you stay to the less traveled trails you can also find lots of piece and quiet.
The hotel is a majestic old structure with lots of character.
We only stayed one night but it was great. No TV just the sound of the water outside, very peaceful. The room we had was on the small side but comfortable.
Dinner was OK and breakfast was as well. We did not checkout the pool as it was very crowded.
I would like to return in the spring during the week when there are less crowds.

Attention to detail is amazing! Spa services are phenominal! My firnds and I hung out in the spa area for hours - mineral hot tub and pool were a treat! The food is exceptional! Plenty to do indoors and out! We particularly enjoyed the hiking, the paddle boats, and the garden!
