We went up for a wedding, not really knowing what to expect. The high price tag had initially scared us a little, as we were worried that the wedding wouldn't allow us time to "get our money's worth". Boy was I wrong. Just driving up is spectacular. The grounds and the preserve are stunning and coming around the driveway into the gardens is a beautiful welcome. Traffic had caused us to be a little late and the House was very accommodating in rescheduling our formal dinner reservations and taking care of our needs (delivering our bags quickly, checking us in with speed, and allowing us time to get changed and ready for the formal dining room). I was expecting a older crowd and a nuzzle up to the bar attitude, but was pleased to see a very active and outdoors attitude, and the encouragement to get out and climb, hike, run, swim and really take advantage of the grounds in phenomenal.

Food was tasty and service friendly. The wedding was stunning and everyone was happy. If youre looking for a great weekend retreat Mohonk House is a great choice. I look forward to going back in the winter!

All you need for a fantastic stay here is good weather, so you can enjoy all the amazing activities on this unbelievable property. The resort is nestled around a lovely lake, with an assortment of non-motorized boating for the family to enjoy, and surrounded by picturesque mountains, and limitless hiking trails and rock scramblers, for people of all athletic ability levels. If you would rather bike than walk the carriage trails, you can rent bikes, or ride a horse drawn carriage around the grounds. There is also a beautiful indoor pool, numerous tennis courts, basketball, a swimming area in the lake, and many other activities for families/couples that I am forgetting to name.

Although the resort itself looks fairly dated in certain areas, and could use a facelift on the exterior in certain parts, the Spa looks like it could be in a Ritz Carlton, with a beautiful private outdoor jacuzzi, and a lovely veranda to enjoy while waiting for your treatment. The fitness center is also very nice and updated. The resort is a "mostly inclusive" in that most of the activities are included in the price, and all the food is included, but not the alcohol. Unlike other "all-inclusives" I have been too- like Turks and Caicos Beaches Resort, the food here was much better quality, especially in the adult-only formal dining room. I had salmon and sea bass that were both excellent. The breakfast buffet had everything you could ever want to eat (and then some) and the outdoor lunch BBQ, set on a Mountain overlooking the lake, was very good, and a lovely venue.

If there was anything that could be improved, it would be their entertainment at night, which is dated (especially for the kids), and there is no TV in the guest rooms, so better entertainment would have been nice...The guest rooms are not that spectacular, but they are perfectly fine- a little small compared to what we are used to for an expensive resort. Last, a nice touch would have been to provide some free water bottles, or have more free non-alcoholic drinks and snacks in some of the common rooms throughout the day.

Overall though, we will surely be back. I have been here several times- for a corporate outing, an extended family vacation, a 50th birthday party, and just a couple's getaway, and loved my stay every time.

It really is the perfect resort -- tasteful and charming, with stunning surroundings and wonderful service. We came in for a night from Brooklyn with our three year old son and kept him up for the evening entertainment, which was a terrific swing dance group. The dinner was delicious, and the activities are all so much fun! We loved the hike up to the lookout and on our way back, we came upon a beautiful lily pond with frogs sitting on lily pads! We swam in the lake, and rowed boats. As another reviewer said, it's both wild and tame. The perfect combination. They hit every note. If only we could afford it, we would go all the time!

We'd heard good things about the dining experiences, the cost of which was included in the insane room price, and so we anticipated three fine meals during our stay. We should have packed sandwiches. The thing we recall the most, though we've tried hard to forget, is the fries, which were so grease soaked they could have been wrung out and the oil reused. The steak was cooked too long, the veggies too little (some were squishy and some nearly raw, so on the average I guess they were perfect...) All in all, the three meals were of the sort one could get at Shoney's on a bad day there. On a brighter note, the mattress was fantastic and the view very nice. No complaints about the room. Also, it's interesting to note the number of chairs, some very puffy and comfy, throughout the entire building. No matter where one goes, there is no lack of a place to sit!

On a perfect summer day, my wife went running on the trails, the kids took out bikes for a 12 mile round-trip on bridle paths, to watch the cliff climbers. This gave me the morning to play 9 holes on the mountain golf course. The afternoon was family time at the signature lake, napping for the parents and boating swimming and fishing for the kids. All is well in paradise.
