First I must say that thus far all of the staff has been very kind and chipper and the hotel rooms are quite lovely and soothing to the eye. The beds are extremely comfortable. I only say all of this to add balance to my review.

Now, where to being?

First we get there and they give us a room key on the 5th floor and have us park in a very specific spot. In fact, after showing that we really didn't want valet parking as we wanted to be able to access our car at any time, the friendly gentleman at the front desk MOVED his OWN CAR just so we could take his spot. We tried to refuse but he absolutely insisted.

We were then suddenly changed to a 2nd floor room that ended up being handicapped and seemed "less nice" then what was shown in the pictures. I automatically assumed it was the torn jean shorts and visible tattoo'd arm. But whatever... we got over it quickly.

We decide since we had been in a car for 8 hours showers were much needed. It's too bad the handicap shower's curtain is extra short and leaves water all over the bathroom floor. And I mean ALL OVER IT. And then we find that the room for two only has one robe and it appears to be filthy? It looks like a woman wearing face make-up had spent an entire night sleeping in it... orange around the rim! But whatever... we got over that too.

So morning comes and we wake up to TWO parking tickets. Not a parking zone!? The front desk man moved us into a spot where you are not actually aloud to park and told us we would be "fine" there! Awesome.

We then went on to eat the breakfast provided free of charge. It was ok. It was a free breakfast so we didn't expect anything too fancy anyways. I was actually perfectly happy with eggs, bacon and a yogurt. Sadly, the result in my eating this was food poisoning. Instead of going out and enjoying the falls I ended up putting a "do not disturb" sign on the room's door and spending about 6 hours heaving on the bathroom floor and sitting on the toilet. Awesome.

So eventually I am OK enough to see the falls. We walk over, I feel blah, we see it... the hotel is very close so it was a nice walk. That was a plus since the hotel gave me food poisoning... walking far would not have been possible.

So anyways, we stayed there a little over a week ago and I check our bank account today... and we are double charged!? And the accounting department and manager can't even find the additional charge in the system so they are asking us to print and fax over our bank information. How unorganized can one hotel be? Seriously. Don't they have a week to date, month to date and year to date income goal and tracker? How do they not know they are over nearly $200 for the date? Absolutely mind blowing. My mind, is BLOWN! We have spent a good part of the day on the phone trying to work this out... tomorrow will be day two and still ZERO refund for the additional money they don't realize they took out of our account! Awesome.

The view from the top floor can take your breath away... especially with the fireworks at night. The hotel itself seems very well kept and is impressive, to say the least. But the room, as we saw it, was not as good as what is shown in pictures... and the hassle that seems to never end makes this a one star for us. A vacation should never cause more stress... you are supposed to feel relaxed afterwards. Stress, disorganization and food poisoning left us feeling as if we were robbed... and then, technically, we actually were robbed after they double charged us and have yet to refund our money. Let's hope we don't have to drive 8 hours just to get our money back in our account.

Best of luck to anyone staying here.

We stayed here for our destination wedding. The rooms were absolutely beautiful, and the service was the best I have ever had by far. The staff were all very friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. If you stay there BE SURE to ask Eric at the front desk about the dolphin exhibit. You won't be disappointed.

My husband and I stayed two nights on May 21-22nd. We booked a two room suite. We had a second floor room that was resonably quiet and the bed was very comfortable. The rug in the bathroom was so shabby and ragged that I would have trouwn it away, not use in in a hotel bathroom. We were told that the bar would be open until 11:00 pm but was closed before 10:30. The all of the hot items at breakfast were cold and picked over by 9:30am and they were out of coffee. There wasn't even an employee there to help. After sightseeing from 10:00am ,we returned to our room at 2:00 to find that our room hadn't been cleaned yet. After asking the front desk about it, their answer was tht they were a small hotel with a small staff. The girl at the desk acted put out that I asked to have my room cleaned. Needless to say, we had to leave again as there wasn't anywhere to go except up to the observation level. We weren't told about the free shuttle and were not offered free cookies at night. It was quite a disappointment as the reviews on Trip Advisor were quite positive. At the price of the rooms, I would go over to the Canadian side. Lovely hotels and restaurants.

We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend and the moment we walked in could tell it was something special (thank you Eric). The decor is artful and muted in restful tones and is carried out in every room and hall, as well as in the lobby and lounge. The ceilings are high and pipes and a/c units are exposed but that didn't deter us from sleeping. The building was built in 1929 as an office and still retains its original architecture. The upper stories are lit at night in the same bright colors as the nearby Falls. The chewy chocolate chip cookies that are delivered each evening were a real treat. The ameneties in the rooms are thoughtful and pampering, and beds are fluffy and comfy. There is also an oversized shower with luxury toiletries. Oh, and there is personal chauffer service upon request (thank you Ashley). They also serve a full hot breakfast in the day room. If you are every in Buffalo or even if Canada is your destination, try to stay here.

Classy Place

We came to the Giacomo for our honeymoon and we were SO pleased with our choice. What a classy and beautiful and historic building. The room is much more interesting than a generic Sheraton or Holiday Inn. The furnishings are modern and attractive. We were given a corner room, so we had light and cross-ventilation from the many windows. We had a beautiful view of the Canadian side of the falls, and could see the mist from the falls from our window. The hotel is about two blocks from the lovely state park, where there are many vantage points to see the incredible falls. The state park also offers the advantage of being able to see the wonderful rapids leading to the falls--really awe-inspiring.

The Canadian side is certainly more active and busy, which made coming back to the NY side a peaceful refuge. The hotel is also two blocks from the Seneca Casino, where we had a good buffet dinner. There is a lounge on the 19th floor that gives wonderful rainbow-filled views of the area. The A/C units are indeed louder than they should be, but didn't keep me up. The shower is the only thing that was really sub-par--strange showerhead with very little water pressure and difficult to regulate temperature. Otherwise, the room was roomy, the bed VERY comfortable, the chauffer service is terrific, and a nice full breakfast with bacon and eggs. Very highly recommended, we just loved it.

Room Tip: Ask for a high-floor corner room facing Canada.
