“Second time here”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

Based on our first stay, my wife and I decided to come back for a quick get away to the US side of the falls. Our visit this time wasn't quite as good as the last, partially due to the February weather. Checking in we found out we were on the second floor and facing the street (ugly) but it was the freezing room that seemed to never get warm (even with the fireplace) that made me give The Giacomo an average rating on this trip. If I'm paying the boutique price, I expect a better than average stay. Not sure if I'd be back for a third try.

Room Tip: Hopefully you can get a fireplace room or one with a nice tub.... Not like the views form the room a...

Great Hotel location. Room was spacious and well appointed. Front desk and room service was very responsive and professional. Small lounge had live music and a half bar for libations and spirits. The view of the falls is lacking due to hotel being on the "back" side of the falls.

You can see the back water before it goes over the falls but not the falls itself. Great location to all the attractions with in short walking distance. Free Valet parking was a bonus due to limited parking on the streets. Planning a return for a "Romantic Weekend" in the future.

Room Tip: Do Not expect to see the splendor of the Niagra Falls from this Hotel. You can see the back water b...

My wife and I stayed at The Giacomo for one evening during first week of February to make a brief visit to the Niagara Falls (Winter). We experienced the staff as very friendly and competent and the hotel suite very tastefully decorated. The hotel have a great lookout platform on the 18th floor when where one could see the falls and much of the city.

I highly recommend this Hotel as a great place to stay for business or pleasure.

Room Tip: request a room on the top floors with a view of the falls.

My husband surprised me with a trip to Niagara Falls for Valentine's Day this year and we stayed at The Giacomo. He did a package that included a $75 gift card to one of the restaurants close-by, and a one night stay. He also set it up to have rose petals on the bed and chocolates in the room!

The hotel was nice and the staff was really accommodating. It's really pretty in there- the decor makes it elegant but cozy. We arrived around 10-10:30 a.m. on Saturday (drove in from Pittsburgh... about a four to five hour drive) and since it wasn't time to check in yet, they parked our car and took our backs and locked them up in the closet while we walkted to the Falls. The Falls were like a block a way - really easy and simple walk. After going over to the Canada side and walkinga ll around, we got back to the room around 2 and were ready to check in. The bed was SO comfortable. And after a long day walking, I felt like I was on pillows. the bathroom was great, and the shower was nice too - the pressure was good. The only thing I was confused about was how to get the temperature right and how to keep it that way. It seemed to get where i wanted, then get colder, then back up to hot. Room was clean - no problem with that - and the heat was great. It was nice to have the water and Keurig in the room for when we wanted something to drink. After dinner (I can't remember what it was called but it was right down the street and it was connected to the culinary school - IT WAS DELISH!) we came back to the room to relax. We went up to the sky view to see if we could see the Falls lit up at night (I really didn't want to walk all the way back there in the cold) and we could see the lights shining but not on the falls. It was still cool to go up there though. We were going to go to the bar and have drinks but opted to stay in and lounge in bed. Later, we got hungry but there aren't any vending machines or anything so we called the front desk and they rbought up a menu to a place that delivers until 2 a.m. So, we ordered some hoagies and they came right to our door!

the next morning we got breakfast downstairs and it was pretty good. Typical breakfast - sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, fruit, yogurt, juice, cereal. It smelled amazing - even up on the 6th floor where we stayed!

Overall, we had a lovely stay at the Giacomo and would go back in a heart beat! It was a nice little romantic get away.

Our second, two night stay at the Giacomo, a post Christmas break as it were. Check-in was quick, the room as promised. A great deal of thought goes into the little things that make the Giacomo a nice place to stay. Internet is free in the rooms. The bottled water in the rooms, a nice Kuerig coffee machine with four K-cups of coffee. The motion sensor lights in the halls getting to your room. The light that comes on when you open the closet. Motion sensor lights for the bathroom is a nice touch during the day, but it would be nice to know how to disable the motion sensor lights at night. At 3 AM when nature calls, you walk into the bathroom and you are temporarily blinded by those automatic lights, not to mention that the sudden bright light wakes up your partner. Also, our room was in desperate need of a vacuuming and the single arm chair needed to be cleaned as I found food wedged in-between the cushion and the armrest and $0.58 in coins. It also took us a few minutes to find the switch to turn on the electric fireplace. Our room had connecting doors to the room beside and our neighbours were quite loud in the morning both mornings we were there. Also the Giacomo used to offer a 'limo' ride to local restaurants or to the casino in, they do not anymore which was a nice feature. The breakfast was good and the staff courteous. We also do a fairly thorough search for bedbugs and I am glad to report that none were found, but one of the bidding places for bedbugs is behind the headboard and the one here is so big that I didn't dare try to try to take it off to check for bedbugs.
Yes, we will stay here again, just not sure it will be our next trip to Niagara Falls, NY.

Room Tip: The casino is close by as is the Falls.

My family of 3 stayed at the Giacomo Hotel for 4 nights in early December as part of a 7 week tour around the USA.
On check in, late in the afternoon, we found the staff member efficient. He even recommended places to eat around town. The problem with that was when we finally left the hotel in search of dinner, the streets were deserted and nothing was open. We realise it was off season being Winter, but after coming straight from New York, it was like walking into the Twilight Zone.... (Not complaining, just noting)
As to the hotel amenities, they were all pretty much as expected in a hotel of this category. We received chocolates each day in our room, which was a nice touch.
The room itself had two very comfortable Queen size beds. The linen was all of good quality too. Our view was over the street, so nothing to write about there. The bathroom was huge, with a great shower and nice towels.
Breakfast was included in our stay and was served each morning in a small room behind the lobby. We were lucky it was quiet during our stay as there was limited seating. Food quality was nice. Not a huge choice, but plenty to get you started each day.
We didn't drink in the bar, but the setting was very nice. We heard music coming from there one evening which sounded good, and there was a small crowd enjoying it.
There are a couple of things I would say weren't great. Nothing major, just little touches that would have made a difference for us.
Firstly, staff might have recommended to us the fireworks that were let off on the Friday night over the Falls. We we sitting in our room and heard them, but by the time we put shoes on, etc, and made our way up to the lounge, it was all over. Such a shame as would have been great to see.
And secondly, the valet parking was a bit of a let down. The secure parking lot is directly across the street, and on a couple of occasion we asked/offered to collect our own car as we were wanting to get on the road, but, we always had to wait for a staff member to collect it, which if they were busy or there were a few people waiting it took a while. (It was usually who ever was working on the front desk that went off to get it)
Other than that, we enjoyed our stay.
The hotel in our opinion was good quality and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the area.
