“Interesting attraction”

Pedra Lume Salt Crater
Ranked #2 of 54 things to do in Ilha do Sal

This attraction is interesting but warrants only a relatively short visit, It is the main attraction on the island of Sal and has an interesting history. Standing in the car park before entering the site you have little idea just what is going to meet you. You go through a tunnel in the rocks created by slaves and the sight that meets you is stunning. The lakes are set within the crater of an extinct volcano and the hues on the lakes are white, pink, blue etc, making for a terrific photographic opportunity. You can wander around or go for a float in the lakes. There are showers, toilets and a small café/gift shop. A charge is made but this included in the 4x4 trip provided by Thomsons.

Run down and not worth the visit-and if you buy the salt it is almost as expensive as gold. Needs a lot more work to qualify as an adventure.

Strange feeling to walk through a narrow tunnel to get into a volcanic crater filled with salt! Lots of people swimming in the salty water. And maybe the only place on the island without any wind!

Be warned the further out that you go the more you will feel the water is possibly in excess of 60 degrees near your toes, seemingly there is geothermal activity! Really clean 5 euro entrance fee. Don't bother with a shower afterwards the salt on your skin is worth a fortune. Simply take a bottle of water to rise your eyes and mouth afterwards.

The moonlight landscape is something quite different and equally as good as the 'Blue hole'. Aside from 3 other tourists on our bus, we were the only ones swimming #exclusivesalination

Great experience, don't forget flip flops as very Stoney,,, very relaxing and great for skin although a little pongy! Wear factor 50 as water and salt intensifies the suns rays and you will burn. I if you have any scratches or cuts it will sting and they only recommend staying in for 10 mins. It costs 5 euros for entry and extra 1 euro if you want to shower
