Hard to believe that up 'till now, fellow reviewers have missed Pubim, mind you you might not know that it's called Pubim unless you've eaten there.
This narrow restaurant/café is located in a side street off the main Rua 1 de Junho street. Look for the traditional Cape Verdean market and turn at the corner into the side-street.
The food is authentic and (unusually) well-seasoned. There's nothing fussy about Pubim - basic wooden tables, paper serviettes, little choice of wine, laminated well-worn menu (with pictures), not very attentive service (no stress!) BUT the atmosphere is great, and most nights they definitely have the best band.
Over several visits we tried the lobster, wahoo, pork escalope, and were really impressed by the quality of the cooking, and friendliness of service, and most of all the value for money.
Open for lunch and dinner. No reservations. Locals eat here; Tourists eat here; and so should you!
