“Civilized atmosphere and spectacular views”
Reviewed 8 October 2012

I have lived in the area for a while (about one year) and have been anxiously waiting for the restaurant at Ngari hill to open ever since I first stumbled upon this lodge on the hill on a weekend hike. It was well worth the wait; Rudolph, the owner and manager is welcoming and an informative host, and has opted for quality over quantity at his lodge and restaurant. I went for a Saturday lunch with a friend, arriving dusty and hot after climbing up to the top of the hill from the center of Maralal town. Staff were waiting, and directed us to a lovely patio overlooking Maralal and the rolling plains and vegetation. This is where you can really see the result of the hard work that Rudolph and his team have put in over the years; 15 years ago the area had no trees and hardly any bush and now the hilltop is covered with a variety of hardwoods that offer cool shade and a refreshing change. Had a selection of lovely wines, a delicious (and homemade) lasagna, and creative dessert. Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting either to stay the night, or even just to enjoy a slow-paced western-style meal in a relaxed and inviting environment.

I booked for 1 week with my husband, daughter and our 2 best friends. We stay in the lodge our friends had the tent.
The rooms are very clean and plenty of space.
The food is in small buffet but very good,i have an allergy and we just had to ask and they prepared special food !
The staff is very friendly and polite, you can ask them everything they help with a big smile.
When you go in colder period its better to ask for the lodge, our friends told us that is was a bit to cold in the tent.
I recommend this to anyone.
I definitely want to go back !

Room Tip: ask for the lodge

The accommodation at Ngari hill guesthouse was great with lovely bedrooms and en suite bathrooms with a bath! There were also really nice showers etc. and permanent pitches for anyone wanting to camp. The situation, on the very top of a hill, was spectacular with fantastic views, all round, over Maralal and the surrounding countryside. The food was very nice and reasonably priced and there was a good selection of wines. The atmosphere was really welcoming and relaxing and Rudolph a great host. I would highly recommend Ngari Hills, it's worth a visit for the view alone but when combined with lovely, comfortable accommodation and good food it's definitely a great place to stay.

Room Tip: All rooms were equally nice with a choice of a cottage or tented accommodation.

The Proper Walk 2012 - Ten Americans, eight Kenyans and 22 camels walked 150 miles from Suguta Marmar to Lake Turkana in July/August 2012 to raise money for the Makindu Children's Program - www.properwalk.com. After the 10 day Walk, all were tired and a bit sore. We drove from the Lake to Maralal where we had a great "soft landing" at the Ngari Hill Guesthouse. We were the first larger group hosted by Rudolph and his team. We camped outside the lodge with an incredible view of Maralal far below us. Everyone had a hot shower and were able to relax by the wonderful fireplace in the lodge. The food, drink and overall ambiance of Ngari Hills was exceptional. Everyone at Ngari was very welcoming, kind and helpful. I highly recommend Ngari Hill Guesthouse. Its a great place for a soft landing!
