“Delightful to come back to”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

We were here some years ago and were very happy to find the lodge in excellent shape again. Luxury accommodation with much privacy and great view over the bushland and mountains. Welcoming and pleasant service by friendly and competent staff. Excellent game drives with - this time again - surprising wildlife encounters. A great place to relax.

Most of the other reviews say it all - the Nedile lodge is a little piece luxury with fantastic views across the Waterberg mountains. It was a very special experience, eating dinner on the veranda with a good glass of wine - under a starlit firmament the like of which we seldom see in Europe.
I have been to another lodge in the park before, so I knew the area. This lodge was more secluded - a real hideaway. We stayed 6 very lovely nights, and enjoyed every one of our 10 drives. There were always different things to see and not just the animals. The light was at time was simply stunning, never the same twice. In terms of animals, the lion, cheetah, rhinoceros and jackal babies were highlights - as were the encounters with elephants and of course the leopard.
The only feedback I would give is that during the period that we stayed at the lodge, it was not possible to enjoy a walking safari. So for people that like to move a little in order to better enjoy the fantastic food, it is better to check beforehand if this option is available. Apparently it depends on the ranger on duty at the time. For those that want to enjoy the animals from the safety of a land rover only - not an issue.

I stayed with a whole group of friends between 19 and 70 at Nedile Lodge and we had a wonderful stay. Service was perfect, Michael, the ranger, did a very good job and showed us the most amazing and rare animals, food was lovely and the pool area was nice and clean and relaxing. I would always come back. Welgevonden is a huge Game Reserve and just after 5 mins in Nedile I felt perfectly relaxed and far away from my everyday stressful routine at work.

My second visit to this beautiful place and 5 glorious days. Nothing has changed. Still the perfect place in the bush. Still the perfect welcomes and friendly, happy service and delectable food. And still Anica and Michael run this place with such passion and dedication as if it were their very own. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Your every wish is their command.

Michael treats the bush and the animals with such respect, and upholds, unfailingly, the rules of the bush. Yes, even here there are rules. But rules to keep the natural habitat of the animals as unaffected as possible and of course, rules for the personal safety of the guests. It's not often one comes across this sincere care and attention to detail. Nice.

The weather wasn't that great, but that's the thing....it doesn't need to be. The bush and behaviour of the animals change with the weather, so there is always something interesting to experience despite what's happening above your head. And that incredible landscape, whether wind, cloud, rain or shine, is just that......incredible.

There's only one sad moment at Nedile.... when your vehicle is turning the bend and you're waving your last goodbye's.

Room Tip: There are only 5 rooms and each is unique in its own special way. I loved rooms 3 and 1. 3 has the...

My husband and I, along with 8 other friends/family ranging in ages from 17 to 67 spent 4 days and 4 nights at Nedile Lodge. Everything was spectacular from the start. The transfer from Johannesburg to the Lodge was perfect--the drivers, Ian and John, were excellent. Michael was an expert on everything--animal, vegetable and mineral. Anica and staff made us all feel like family. The food was phenomenal. I can't think of a thing I would change. We went on 2 game drives each day and one night drive when we arrived. We saw and learned so much and especially enjoyed the visit to the pool by a hot and thirsty elephant who just wanted to drink and take a quick bath!

Nedile Lodge, expertly run by Anica, Michael and David is truly an amazing experience. the Lodge is set high up on an escarpment and the views at night ensure you do not see another light, thus star gazing is an exquisite experience. The 5 rooms are superb and ensure privacy, the outside shower a 'must do' experience. The game drives were expertly operated by David during our stay and he ensured we came away with a lasting memory of being up close and personal with most of the Big Five. The food was plentiful and considering the distance from the Lodge to the closest town, very fresh and appetising. It felt a very personal experience as all of the staff made you feel that you were 'special' and that is something most Game Lodges would aspire to achieve.

Room Tip: All of the rooms (only 5) were ideally located. The Lodge is built into the rocks that form the esc...

Our weekend at Nedile lodge was fantastic. The food was great, the rooms were spacious and clean, bathroom was very modern and had large tub, indoor, and outdoor towels, amenities were all there including hairdryer, bug repellant, plenty of towels, robes, etc, and the views are spectacular!! As others have noted the lodge has a very intimate and private feel as it only accommodates 10 people maximum. The staff is fantastic, always welcoming you with smiles, and go out of their way to make you comfortable. Anica is a fantastic hostess and the fact that she truly enjoys her job comes across very clearly. Her fiancee, Michael, was our host during the game drives. He is not only knowledgable but very funny and personable. He loves the animals and is incredibly respectful of them - not like at other reserves when game drivers will make loud noises etc. to get the animal's attention. The reserve is not a zoo! We weren't afraid to tell Michael what animals we wanted to see (rhinos) and he was sure to find them. He did a fantastic job at being accommodating to all 10 of us on the ride, making sure we all had a view of the animals, etc.

We were in lodge 5, the one furthest away from the main house (2 minute walk, you need to be escorted after dark). All of the rooms have fantastic, unobstructed views, though lodges 3-5 offer more privacy if that is what you are looking for.

I will definitely be back to Nedile lodge! A perfect weekend full of tranquility and plenty of hospitality.
