This was a super place to stay. very unusual & quaint setting.Just the right place to relax & unwind. The rooms each had their own entrance & porch in a 4 plex style thatched building(2 up,2 down). The rooms were clean & roomy.Even a day bed. I can't say enough about the meals. SUPERB.
Enjoying 'high tea' or a drink in the beachview lounge/bar was an unexpected luxury.
The staff were attentive & Owners Sadru & Joanne made us feel so very welcome.
I would highly recommend Ngalawa Beach Village. It's a GEM

This is a lovely spot to unwind and really feel away from it all. The food is excellent and service attentive. The rooms are spacious, big beds, air conditioned and all very close to the beach and pool. The beach is stunning and sitting in the bar having your sundowners overlooking the turqoise seas is pretty unbeatable. The hotel feels intimate and relaxed and, for the price, is hard to beat.

My group had just finished a week out in the serengeti on safari. We were on our way to 3 days in Zanzibar and arrived at Ngalawa Beach Village as part of a prearranged tour. My expectation was of a nice place like the Serena hotels we had stayed in and was blown away with the simple beauty and elegance seen from reception. From there it only got better as we meandered along the flower filled paths to our "huts". Each being a 4 plex with a covered porch, large bedroom/living area, and large bathroom, with a/c, lots of hot water, and great showers. Each room is very sound proof and quiet. At night the staff turn down the bed and arrange the mosquito netting while you at supper, and turn on your porch lights. A Massai warrior patrols the perimeter while you sleep and the property is secured by a high fence, no lions and elephants here.
Sadru and Joanne are very attentive hosts, checking on food differences (one of our group was vegetarian), entertaining us, making sure we had everything we needed, arranging a guide for us in Stone town, complete with ride, ensuring that we knew the water was from their well and treated so we could brush our teeth in it, that lots of the food was grown and harvested on sight or purchased locally, and introducing us to lots of special drinks in Lilly's bar. I was missing my cat so one of theirs came to my door for a pet, and then there are the goats who think they are dogs!
The beach was a small area but there was no one else there and too hot to sit anyway so a quick dip in the Indian Ocean then back in to the beautiful swimming pool and then under the shade trees to watch the red monkeys perform. They are apparently quite rare but are totally at home in the many fruit trees (orange, lemon, lime, etc) that Joanne harvests for food and drinks.
The 4 meals a day are all haute cuisine. Even tea with crustless sandwiches and cakes (or lemon meringue Martinis). I brought home pictures of the food and everyone thought they were from a very high class restaurant (which of course they are, just more laid back).
I can't say enough about the beauty, tranquility, friendliness, and relaxation of Ngalawa.

If you are going to Zanzibar, you have to stay at Ngalawa Beach Village. It is the perfect place to relax, unwind, swim in the pool/ocean, eat incredible food, and if you're lucky-feed the goats their afternoon snack of "cookies".

The rooms are large and clean, the staff friendly and Sadru and Joanne are exceptional hosts.

Visit Stone Town, buy some spices and tanzanite- but stay in Ngalawa Beach Village.

I had just completed the trip of a lifetime: a safari. The group I was with were sent to the Ngalawa Beach Village to wind down. It could not have been a better place to unwind and "chill." Sadru and Joanne were such great hosts. The staff is extraordinary. The rooms, set in 4 plexes, with thatched roofs, are so comfortable. (If on the upper level, you must be able to climb a few stairs. It wasn't a problem for us who ranged from 51 - 60 years old.) Aside from the wonderful swimming pool, we also had the choice of cocktails on the deck, overlooking the Indian Ocean. How much better does it get? It did get better. The food was unbelievable. Joanne and Sadru catered to our food preferences and the preferences of the various other folks at the resort, including a diabetic man. It seems that Sadru is the strong silent type and Joanne is the social one. She is followed each day by her two goats; out for a walk. The other major plus, is that, no tips are expected. At the end of the stay, you can leave a 'tip' with the management and they will distribute to the staff. We even got visited by the red monkeys so we didn't have to do another tour. The only downside was that dinner is served from 8 pm on. For us who eat earlier, it was a bit of a wait. It was hard to go to bed on a full stomach. However, tea with treats, is served, at the bar, at around 4 pm.
On our last night in Zanzibar, we stayed in Stone Town at the fancy hotel where the Aga Khan stays when he is in town. Even though I had a huge suite at this hotel, the consensus of the group was that Ngalawa Beach Resort was superior. We would have traded the last night at the posh hotel in Stone Town for Ngalawa Beach. It is a bit far out but, if you are into a quiet, no stress experience, this is the place to be. If you want action, Sadru and Joanne can arrange it.

Warm and generous hospitality with exquisite dining - our six-month-old gorged on fresh, specially prepared purees at every meal, loving it all, and so did we. Lovely Maasai babysitters - monkeys in the trees - and a spa with an unforgettable mint massage. An utterly relaxing experience - it will be a long time before the beauty and peace of Ngalawa fades from my memory.

I'd just spent 3 weeks working in Dar and had the chance to spend a weekend relaxing in Zanzibar afterwards, so asked for recomendations. A friend in Dar who works in hospitaltity recomended Sadry and Joanne's resort, as the ideal place to relax, and how right they were!

The resort itself is beautifully put together right on the beach, with Lilly's Bar on a raised platform over the beach right by the sea at high tide. There is a well kept pool, and a restaurant which is definitely the highlight of the place! The food was absolutely first class! I am a genuine food lover, and was in heaven at every meal!

There is a small spa for massage by the sea, and the immediate wildlife includes monkeys and goats. Joanne and Sadru can organise various expeditions, including diving, swimming with Dolphins, the Spice trail, etc. I can't comment on any of these personally as I was too busy relaxing with a signature Lemon Meringue Pie Martini in the bar!

In all, we had a wonderful time, thoroughly enjoyed meeting Joanne and Sadru, put on severl Kg's in the restaurant and wished we could have stayed longer.... Hope to go back soon!
