La Barde, without a doubt is a very special place. The setting is magnificent - a small medieval village with castles and lovely cottages and chateaux. The building is a sturdy timber frame building with beautiful interior furnishings, tapestries, and frescoes. The rooms are luxurious, clean and comfortable with doors to the outside where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the natural, peaceful setting. There are spacious common areas, well stocked book shelves, magazines, and fresh walnuts (a specialty of the area). The owners of La Barde are gracious and friendly hosts, knowledgable about the local attractions, restaurants, etc of which there are many. The breakfasts, from fresh crepes to fresh fruit, yogurt, and pastries, were delicious. We honestly did not want to leave and look forward to returning.

Philippe, Marie-Christine and Laura are very lovely family with a beautiful home and offer outstanding service. From our first greeting to our fond farewell we were treated to delicious breakfasts, restful sleeps, and wonderful conversations in French and English (we practiced our French).
The guesthouse is very well located to easily reach many of the fine sites in the region. Our hosts were always happy to help with driving directions and suggestions of what to see and when. Their restaurant recommendations were also excellent.
We very highly recommended a visit with them. We very much look forward to our next stay. Merci beaucoup!

Our family spent 3 nights at this fabulous B&B and we truly enjoyed our stay. Our hosts Marie-Christine, Philippe and Laura were very nice persons. The room and bathroom were big and clean. The beds were very comfortable. we also liked their excellent Breakfasts which were plentiful and hearty. I highly recommend everyone to stay here if you are travelling in this part of France.

La Barde Montfort is simply outstanding, as are its hospitable and generous hosts, Marie-Christine and Philippe. Following a personal recommendation from a colleague and encouraged by the highly positive on-line reviews, we spent six nights in this chambre d’hôte in October. Our stay was a truly memorable and pleasant experience. Our room was generous in size, as was the well appointed bathroom, and spotlessly clean. We were also allowed and encouraged to use other parts of the residence, including the kitchen (to make drinks and snacks – fridge space was provided), and two seating areas. Breakfasts were excellent, with a healthy selection of breads, cereals, meats, cheese and fruit.
La Barde is set in attractive, well kept grounds with views to nearby Chateau de Montfort. It is also perfectly positioned to explore the attractions of the Dordogne – close to Sarlat but enjoying a peaceful rural location.
Our hosts were exceptional. They made every possible effort to make us welcome and feel at home. Marie-Christine and Philippe are naturally friendly and helpful. They want you to have the best possible experience in their home and region. They are generous in their hospitality and with their time. They were happy to spend time talking to us and allowing us to practise our French, both over breakfast in the morning and in the evening. They were genuinely interested in us and we enjoyed many conversations about family, work experiences, interests and aspirations. When we needed medical assistance to address a dental problem, they went to great lengths to arrange an appointment with a local GP at short notice. When they discovered that we were celebrating our Silver Wedding, they produced a bottle of champagne as a gift! We left for home in Wales having made two new good friends.
Nous avons de très bons souvenirs de nos vacances chez La Barde. Nous reviendrons!

Room Tip: All rooms are very good.

In short, this was our best B&B ever. Everything was perfect: the hosts, the room, the view, the breakfast, the location near Sarlat, etc... We recently spent one night in one of the top 25 B&Bs in the world (in Mexico), I can assure you that La Barde was much better! So, as both a French and an American, I strongly recommend to spend (at least) a night in La Barde when visiting one of the most wonderful region in France, i.e., Perigord.

After a week in lovely, but very busy Paris, we were delighted to then be guests at La Barde, where we met Marie, Philippe, and Laura…truly the most outstanding hosts we have ever encountered in our many travels through bed and breakfast guest houses. They could not have been more delightful, or more helpful, and the breakfasts were excellent. After nine days as their guests we left for Provence feeling like we had just made three new wonderful friends. The chamber d'hôte is very well designed for privacy, comfort, and is very well-appointed. We enjoyed many walks in the morning through the lovely countryside, include heading down the road to a nearby brasserie at the foot of the hill in the shadow of the picturesque Chateau de Montfort. Even though it was the middle of the summer, we found the evenings cooled off very nicely after pleasantly warm days touring the lovely Dordogne Valley area. We would return to La Barde and area in an instant when we are next in France.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely, but we particularly enjoyed the sunny, open corner room called Veronique...

The hosts, Philippe and Marie, are wonderful. They greeted us when we walked in, helped us arrange everything, including endless calling to check on things for us, made reservations and were constantly warm and helpful. I totally agree with the other reviews. This has probably been our favorite spot in France although competition was stiff. They made us special breakfasts and waited on us hand and foot. They checked on canoe and bike rental places. Most of all , they were just plain wonderful hosts. I was sad to wave good bye to them and we were only there for 3 days! This B&B is a must for anyone travelling to the Dordogne area. It's close to everything.

Room Tip: We stayed in Veronica. It was very big and had a nice terrace. All newly refurbished.
