“Can't wait to come back!”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

Let me start by saying that my husband doesn't usually like B&Bs but he loved La Barde! He prefers to go his own way with apartments and such but Phillipe, Marie and Laura won him over. So, all the reviews are correct in that the rooms are spacious and perfectly clean. The location is great for exploring the Dordogne region (many sites and places to eat are less than a 20 minute drive but you get to sleep in a quiet relaxing place). We enjoyed a bit of the outdoor space and the common areas too when we were done running around. Important to note us that there is a public kitchen area where each of the four rooms has a shelf in the fridge and the kitchen us fully stocked with whatever you might need to cook (so you've got the convenience of an apartment with the service of a B&B). Phillipe,Marie and Laura were such a joy to get to know and very helpful. The first evening we enjoyed an aperitif as they told us all about the great stuff to see in the area and how best to go about it. But beyond that, Phillipe provided us with some great recommendations for later on our trip in the Luberon area. His recommendations proved to be some of the best and that made our time in Provence fantastic. We can't say enough good things about the B&B and the people who run it. We can't wait to come back.

We must thank Philippe, Marie Christine and Laura for a wonderful second stay at beautiful La Barde. Beautifully situated for exploring the delights of the region, La Barde is immaculately clean and stylishly appointed throughout. The breakfasts remain a highlight providing a pleasing start to each day. Our hosts are so gracious and attentive, that it truly sets this venue apart. Their desire to improve their English whilst indulging your attempts at French gives you an instant connection and source of humour. Our second visit will not be our last as we are already missing our friends. Merci Philippe, Marie Christine and Laura, you are such a lovely family.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great but differ slightly. Hosts will be happy to advise.

The reviews are right, this B&B is nothing short of excellent. Phillip and Marie make you feel welcome as soon as you arrive. The common area has a billiard table, TV, and comfortable sofas. The dining room is pleasant and the breakfasts are great, typical yogurt, granola, bread, and tea. There is is even a kitchen with a refreig to store your picnic foods.

Phillip offered us a glass of wine on our arrival and showed us to Veronica, our large room with a door to the garden and a view of the Monfort castle. They also have a pool which looked inviting and would be great in warm summer weather.

Our room was wonderful, clean with a great shower. We will definitely return here if we ever return to the Dordogne. We loved the area and visited several castles and toured Sarlat. Two days is not enough to explore this area we will have to return.

We highly recommend this B&B a great place to use as a base to explore this beautiful part of France

Excellent location for exploring the Dordogne. In a very small sleepy town but great location with view of the amazing Chateau Montfort. The owners were very welcoming and helpful with any recommendations or advice. The room was large and comfortable with a couple of little outdoor areas perfect for eating if you don't feel like going to a restaurant. Our French was minimal but the owners did their best to speak English which was a pretty decent standard and enough to have a conversation. They had some good recommendations of towns to visit. Would recommend visiting Domme in the afternoon/evening as they suggested, amazing view. Really enjoyed our stay here and pretty good value we though. cash only though.

La Barde in Montfort is a perfect place to stay in the Perigord Noir region of the Dordogne.
The "maison d'hote" has beautiful views of the Montfort castle and Montfort itself is located on the river barely 10 minutes from each of Sarlat, Domme, La Roque Gageac and Beynac. There is fabulous canoeing from Cenac, 5 minutes away, and the areas best restaurants are within easy reach.
La Barde itself is charming - Marie, Philippe and daughter Laura are wonderful hosts. Nothing is too difficult and the house is beautiful and spotless - a large living area for guests, a kitchen for guests and very stylish rooms, serviced daily.
this is a highly recommended B and B.

La Barde, without a doubt is a very special place. The setting is magnificent - a small medieval village with castles and lovely cottages and chateaux. The building is a sturdy timber frame building with beautiful interior furnishings, tapestries, and frescoes. The rooms are luxurious, clean and comfortable with doors to the outside where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the natural, peaceful setting. There are spacious common areas, well stocked book shelves, magazines, and fresh walnuts (a specialty of the area). The owners of La Barde are gracious and friendly hosts, knowledgable about the local attractions, restaurants, etc of which there are many. The breakfasts, from fresh crepes to fresh fruit, yogurt, and pastries, were delicious. We honestly did not want to leave and look forward to returning.

Philippe, Marie-Christine and Laura are very lovely family with a beautiful home and offer outstanding service. From our first greeting to our fond farewell we were treated to delicious breakfasts, restful sleeps, and wonderful conversations in French and English (we practiced our French).
The guesthouse is very well located to easily reach many of the fine sites in the region. Our hosts were always happy to help with driving directions and suggestions of what to see and when. Their restaurant recommendations were also excellent.
We very highly recommended a visit with them. We very much look forward to our next stay. Merci beaucoup!
