Jellystone Park of Western New York

Our Grandkids love this place so we decided to return for the Memorial Day weekend. Our site, although sloped and hard to level our rv, was wonderful overlooking the fish pond and volleyball court. We did have a major problem with electric power the first night but I believe it was a power company problem which was corrected the next day. I was pleased that although the campground was almost to capacity, the place quieted down and was quiet by 9:30 pm. I know nothing about the owner as has been mentioned negatively in some reviews but every staff member we were in contact with we're polite and congenial. Yes, the bathrooms are tight but they were cleaned periodically throughout the day. We plan a return trip in August.

The staff is new every year becasue the owner get foreign students with all kinds of promises to take them to the Falls, Galleria etc and does not follow thru. He booted all the seasonal campers (the ones who made that place what it is) because he is money hungry and rude. Wife too. They had a wonderful manager Amanda who was fired for telling the truth to the campers. The hottesst weekedn of the year they lost power (no AC) which is not uncommon....and then no water, which in turn made the water park close early....they kicked out the seasonals to bring in more weekend campers becasue they spend more $$ in the stores. They started the year with a laser tag game at the playground, afterit was a hit they started charging the kids to play :-( They will yell at you when its late for talking too loudly but there is no curfew for ppl driving around on those stupid golf carts all night long, and kids def < 16 and going way faster than posted sp limit.
Even the staff drives those things like idiots.
If something goes wrong during your trip do not expect anyone to care!!!

We were giant lovers of this campground (see my previous review to prove it!) but not anymore. We always brought our own RV but one weekend rented and had a nightmare of a rental. Doors were broken, leaked constantly, smelled awful, woke up to flooding in the bathroom roof vent twice. Management was less than helpful. When we checked out, we were told that had we complained more they would have gone repeatedly to our unit to fix things. I replied that he did 3 times and did want to camp and not spend our weekend waiting on management and staff to fix concerns. Regardless, gave us a one night credit. Went to book our own RV site a few months later and were told that we were blackballed for leaving a TRUTHFUL negative review. Funny thing is, I was positive about the activities and other areas of the park) but god forbid you be honest about the horrible experience you had. We didn't get a credit and will never be back with friends or otherwise, and we are sure to tell others of our very poor experience. He lost 3 sets of families that day for his lack of response and poor customer service. Shame on the management!

We loved going to this park under the old management, we came 2-3 times a year with 4 to 5 other family's and after the experience this summer we will NEVER go back. The power shut down on a 90 deg. day (not uncommon here, seems to happen for at least a few hours every time we come here, no big deal) the camp ground well pump broke.....no water, The water park was shut down, all for the day. This was on a not busy weekday, we left 1 day early and turned in our golf kart early because as we could not stay, Amanda, the manager at that time was very nice and told us rather than refunding a day to our family and the family that was camping with us, they would give us a free golf kart to share for a weekend in the future and it was noted in the computer system. We at that time made reservations for the end of September. We came down in September when they had no less than 30 not rented golf karts sitting there, and the owners wife who is a complete XXXX told us "she did not care what happened to us and there is no way she would give us a golf kart for a day free of charge". NOW THATS THE WAY TO KEEP CUSTOMERS HAPPY! I own a business myself and understand the difference of making someone happy from something that is our fault and someone trying to get something for nothing. A lot of the staff was fired in late summer, I saw the camp ground is for sale on the internet and cant help but wounder if the owner just does not care anymore about customers and just wants to bail out.

Room Tip: Woodstream camp ground 5 miles away is just as much fun for the kids and is 1/3 the cost.

We took our two granddaughters for a two day stay to this campground. This was our first excursion with our new (old) c-class mh. We had a spot in the wooded section and it was wonderfully shaded and quiet. (we camped mid week) The water play area was great for the kids and this old 65er. The camp store is larger than any other campground we have stayed at this summer. Loved it!!!

Negatives first:

During the daytime when the water park is running the power is severely diminished at the campsites. We had to turn our air conditioner off due to the breaker popping due to lack of power. We have a fifth wheel that is only 30 amp. We found it extremely frustrating to not have a proper power supply--especially for the price we are paying per night to stay here.

The golf carts that are constantly driving around are annoying at best. Too many times were children operating the carts and driving recklessly on the roads constantly exceeding the 5.5 mph speed limit in the park.

The speed limit is not enforced for any vehicles including the staff vehicles. The lack of speed limit enforcement creates a dangerous condition for everyone at the campground.

The pool does not have a lifeguard. That is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

The site we were on was large but uneven due to being on the hill. We expect to have to level our camper every now and again ...no big deal. The lack of proper power at the campsites was a bigger deal.

The bathrooms/shower areas were older and not as clean as id like to see them. The shower stalls area small and the shower curtains were moldy. The water is controlled by an off/on switch. You have no control over the temp of the shower. Both of us found the water to be scalding when we first turned on the showers. Caution with little kids in these showers.
If we come back to this campground, we will get a full hook up site to avoid the dingy bathrooms.

Positives:

The dog park. Kudos for having an enclosed place where the dogs can run and be off of a leash for some time. The water bowl was provided and a constant water supply was appreciated by our dogs who had a great time playing in their own park.

The water activities for the kids is a bonus for families. There is a beach area, a water park with slides and a pond to swim in. There are canoes and kayaks with plenty of life vest to use. There is ample space for fishing too. No permit required for fishing.

The store has many options but the prices are quite high. It was $2.50 for a bag of ice. But you expect to pay higher price for being a "captive" customer at the campground. The nearest grocery store is an approximate 20 minute drive. The camp store also has a little diner of sorts where food can ordered and either picked up or delivered to your campsite. Pizzas are popular for lunch when the kids are at the different water venues.

IF we had kids with us the money to stay here would be worth it. We are camping with friends who have kids which is why we are here. Comparatively, this park in Java Ny is much better than the one in Mexico, NY. We stayed in the Jellystone in Mexico last year over Labor day weekend. It rained the entire weekend. We later found out that the location of the park in Mexico, NY was a majority of the cause for the rain.
