“Great Food Near Chateau”
Reviewed 8 August 2013

There are several choice in the little village that surrounds the towering chateau but we chose this one because it looked the nicest. We were not disappointed.
Food was excellent. Portions were generous. And unlike many French restaurants the food came fairly quickly -- nice given that we were trying to take in a few sights that day. Be sure to leave room for dessert because the restaurant makes excellent crepes and has an extensive number of possibilities from which to choose. Can't go wrong.
The environment is good, too. You can eat outside on a patio or inside in a pleasant dining room.

“Great lunch in Chatauneuf in Burgundy”
Reviewed 27 May 2013

We had lunch at L’Oree du Bois in Chateauneuf, Burgundy in late May 2013. It was a cold and not particularly bright day yet the warmth of the welcome and the great atmosphere and food helped make our visit to Chateauneuf memorable. This is a small village – it doesn’t show up in many American guidebooks – but the Chateau is definitely worth a visit. In the village there are not many dinning options and L’Oree is an excellent one.

Our meal was arranged by our guide. We specifically requested a lunch of local meats and cheese. And L’Oree delivered with a lovely plate of pate, the local, traditional ham terreine, several sausages and cheeses and salad. It was all delicious and invitingly served in a large dining room with a roaring fire. The owners – though we all operated in French are, apparently, English, so Americans will be able to navigate the menu. The rest of the menu looked good and basic – steak and frites, sandwiches, salads, pate, etc. There was a nice selection of Burgundy wines as well.

We loved visiting the castle and the lunch was a delight. Highly recommend both for a lovely afternoon in Burgundy.

“Parlez vous Anglais - oui!”
Reviewed 4 November 2012

We were tired and cold, freezing in fact, when we stepped into this restaurant, as much for warmth as food. The central fireplace and general ambience immediately filled us with good vibes, then we found out the place was run by an expat Brit and English was definitely understood here.
We opted initially for the soup and loved it; fresh ingredients and nice taste. We moved onto the mains, delicious dessert and a drop of fine wine and were so impressed we came back the next day but, alas, it was shut, in line with the chateau being shut every Tuesday.
Never mind, I get another chance in 2013!

“Chateaneuf en Auxios”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

We had two dinners at this great spot. The first night was arranged by our hotelier and it was so good we went back the next night. Owned by a friendly English couple, the ffod was very and as was the service event though the restaurant was busy both nights. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
