Spent 2weeks with Jan and David. They were perfect hosts, always on hand for any advice required and their gite is a perfect home from home for exploring this part of france. Gite is well furnished and you will find everything you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Great wifi and some british tv was just the icing on the cake. We have spent a few years searching for our ideal base for exploring and think there is a very good possibility we have just found it. We will definetely be returning. Only advice i would give you is to ignore the bad review given about the gite its only one persons opinion there are hundreds more who will tell you differently. Please dont miss out on a gem, go visit Jan and David.

“Our home away from home in France”
Reviewed 12 June 2017 for a stay in May 2017

I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday at Le Petit Vigneron this year. It is a lovely, bright, well-appointed gite next door to the midi-canal. This was our second stay, we so enjoyed our prior (2-week) stay a few years ago. The village is small, but near many interesting sites. You can chose to relax or be as busy as you'd like. We went to the sea, to an olive mill, to museums. We also enjoyed our private patio as well as the shared garden. We felt as if we'd come home. Even the cat remembered us!

The owners, Jan and David, are delightfully helpful as wanted, but never intrusive. They have lots of wonderful ideas, full of local knowledge. We'll be back!

Sadly and disappointingly three aspects marred our stay at Le Petit Vigneron during our 3 week stay.
Firstly - the distinct lack of privacy. Our "private" patio was located directly above the owners' own entertaining area below, making it difficult to enjoy relative peace and quiet from the loud noise below in the evenings. In addition the inter joining glass door dividing the apartment patio from the main dwelling was merely covered with a curtain on the owners' side leaving us feeling exposed and vulnerable from prying eyes.
Secondly - the only access to the apartment was via a narrow and fragile ladder staircase which obliged a very cautious ascent and descent particularly when carrying bags as there was only one shaky handrail. For anyone slightly overweight or frail this would definitely not be deemed suitable accommodation due to the unsafe access to the apartment.
Thirdly - parking was very tight and restricted as the owners also parked their vehicle alongside our medium sized car thus rendering it extremely difficult to enter and exit. Many manoeuvres were needed in order to park as close to the wall as possible making the passenger side door inaccessible. Reversing into the busy side road was also extremely stressful.
We were disappointed that the apartment descriptor on the website was not truthfully reflected as it did not live up to expectations and indeed spoiled our 3 week visit to Capestang.

we're sorry to read such a negative review, the only one in 11 years. Our relationship with guests is usually positive but close contact did not seem welcome this time. The staircase is described on the site as steep and open tread, so I do not feel it is misleading. Be assured that we have better things to do than pry on our guests! We have had much larger cars parked beside ours with no problems. We regret taking your booking as the experience for us was disagreeable to say the least.

The property is well located at the edge of a lovely small town within walking distance of several restaurants and a reasonable supermarket, also few yards from the canal du midi for good walks and a short drive from Beziers Airport.
There is secure parking on a gated drive.
This is one of the best equipped gites we have stayed at , it's also very pretty and has a nice south facing balcony which looks towards the church in the middle of the town.
The best thing , however is the welcome from the delightful owners David and Jan , who can't do enough to make your stay fantastic!

“A comfortable holiday home in a very good position for touring this area of France.”

The Petit Vigneron is as described in its advert. It is an easily managed holiday home with the advantage of its own private terrace. The owners Jan and David are friendly and welcoming with local knowledge and willing to help and offer advice if required. Its situation is excellent for touring this lovely part of France both inland and coastal. My only criticism would be that to enter the flat you have to climb a steep stair which may be a problem for some. We had a most enjoyable stay and would be happy to return. Thank you for your warm welcome.

It's good to know that our advert is accurate and people get what they expect. The comment on the steep staircase is justified but as I've previously responded, it is the only aspect of the gite that we cannot alter, as the building was once a winemaking facility and the walls of the old wine "cuves" are made out of reinforced concrete. If we tried to pull them down I fear our homa and the gite would go with them. Unless you have reduced mobility the stairs won't be a problem for you - we've had some quite elderly guests wo have managed fine.
