“Just what the doctor ordered”

Found by chance on our bike ride from Nice to Bordeaux, We stumbled in at lunch time exhausted, starving and looking mankey after wild hammocking from Nice. The formule menu 12.90 euro was superb including a carafe of wine. The restaurant/hotel has rooms 39, 49 and 59 euros. We went for the 39er which was very clean and fresh smelling with a shower in the corner and 2 single beds. The toilet was across the hall which was kept spotless. After lunch we crashed out and woke up in time for evening meal which we repeated from lunch time adding a ltr of local St Chinian white wine. The staff are lovely people and even let you try and murder the French language without making you feel like an idiot. We paid 104 euros for the 4 meals wine and room so will be calling in again without a doubt.

Room Tip: The 49 and 59 euro rooms have ensuit toilets.

I think most previous posters have summed Le Relais Bleu up quite correctly.30 years ago there were thousands of this style hotel all around France but the Accor chain have driven them out of business.
The food here is excellent, its 4 courses for 14 Euros on the house menu. The house wine is great and the ambience is superb. Its always busy but the amusing blonde waitress is well up to taking care of all covers.
Dont be put off with the dated exterior facade, the french are'nt and they can always sniff out a good meal

On the main route to Beziers, this is a rather run-down establishment in need of a good dose of TLC, but the owners have been there 17 years, so it's unlikely to happen. The people are friendly enough and the rooms are clean, but it's motel/hostel standard accommodation, with none of the usual touches you expect even at modest prices. There is only one double room boasting its own lavatory and that had two single beds and cost 55 Euros a night. Spartan with cheap "art" on the walls. Breakfast was 5.50Euros - basic, no croissant!

We had lunch there on arrival: good size helpings, but everything smothered in gloopy sauces using cheap ingredients. The pichet wine was the only pichet wine we found undrinkable on our whole two week trip. Unless you are suffering from "nostalgie de la boue" give this place a wide berth.

Far better choice in the middle of town in a quiet street is Le Murier Platane at 75Euros a night including breafast, use of a secret garden and a swimming pool and designer surroundings. A converted olive mill, it's exquisite. For the little extra cost (150 E for two nights' B&B as opposed to 132 E) you move up from one star to four stars (personal rating).

And if you want a proper lunch, made by someone who can actually cook, try La Galiniere: reasonable prices, great wine suggestions and pleasant ambience. In Capestang, it's really in a league of its own.

Room Tip: If you don't mind sharing a loo down the corridor, one of the cheaper doubles. The singles are a...

Here what you see is what you get - this restaurant is run by an unpretentious down to earth French couple - this gives you a clue as to what you are going to get - good hearty French food at 70% of the price of its local competitors - the fish soup is excellent and amounts to a meal in itself as do the other starters.

Service is friendly and efficient and wine by the pichet is very reasonable priced and of good quality. Children friendly and ideal for families eating out.

From time to time they theme nights especially on a Friday - Cous Cous is one we often see though we have yet to try it.

This restaurant is now one of our firm favourites.

Room Tip: Never stayed in the hotel, our holiday home only being a little over 100 metres away.

This hotel has a gem of a restaurant. We have returned here year on year to eat and have never been disappointed. Very tasty food, and great value. The service is always with a smile. Whenever we are in the general area we make sure to make a visit. Highly recommended.
